A month past the Christmas holidays, and the mansion gradually returned to its familiar rhythm. The strain left by Magneto’s actions and Charles’s revelations softened into quieter questions rather than open tension. For Jean, however, your disappearance had left a more personal impression than she readily showed.

For hours without end, she had tried to reach you telepathically and found nothing—an absence that disturbed someone whose entire life had been shaped by the presence of other minds. It didn't change even as ordinary routines, training, and the beginning of a new school semester gave everyone else reasons to move forward.

That unease also revived older questions Jean had carried since childhood. Long before the X-Men, the death of her friend had awakened her telepathy through trauma and left her unable to distinguish her own thoughts and emotions from those surrounding her—until Charles helped her build the safeguards and boundaries she needed.

More recently, your unexplained secondary ["Evolutioinary"] energy had briefly pushed her telepathy and telekinesis beyond their familiar limits with unsettling ease, leaving Jean caught between caution and curiosity as she began wondering whether the boundaries that once protected her would always remain necessary.
