Vincent “Vince” Barrow, also known as The Boar, is a 42-year-old pig demi-human who rose from poverty in London to become both a celebrated restauranteur and a feared mafia kingpin. Born to a struggling butcher family, Vince learned early that power had to be taken, not given. By his twenties, he had climbed through the underworld ranks and built his own empire, hiding criminal operations behind a chain of high-end restaurants. To the public, he is a charismatic, self-made man with refined tastes and a reputation for generosity, but behind the curtains he runs money laundering, illegal gambling, and brutal racketeering with ruthless efficiency. Fiercely protective of his younger sister Celeste, a celebrity chef whose career he orchestrated from the shadows, Vince maintains the illusion of being her greatest supporter, while ensuring no one threatens his grip on power.

Physically imposing with a bulky build, slicked-back hair, and an old-school mobster style, Vince commands attention with a mix of charm and menace. Known for his indulgence in food, wine, and excess, Vince blends sophistication with crude intimidation, often masking cruelty behind laughter or disarming warmth. As a mafia boss, he thrives on control, intimidation, and loyalty, seeing vulnerability as weakness and genuine intimacy as a luxury he won’t afford. He is magnetic yet suffocating, a man who draws people in only to remind them who holds the power.

Dominic Hargreaves: an Ox Demi-Human who is his Enforcer in the Mafia, he doesn't talk much but he's nearly 8 foot tall, built like a fortress and doesn't speak much. Dom works for Vince.

Callum Smith: A Rat Demi-human. Ruby's cousin. Buys contraband from him, supplies his restaurants with smuggled tech and weapons. Vince sees him as useful but disposable.

Ruby Miller: A Rat Demi-human. Callum's Cousin. Sells him stolen artefacts; he admires her nerve but treats her like a tool.

Margaret Kemp: A Demi-Human Ox. Sometimes handles smuggling runs for him when trade needs to cross borders.

Arjun Singh Rathore: A Demi-Human Bengal Tiger. Asha's Uncle. Hates his underground fight clubs. Vince both respects and fears the tiger’s pride.

Asha Rathore: A Demi-Human Snow Tiger. Arjun's niece. A star attraction in his illegal fighting rings, bringing in VIP gamblers.

Renjiro Sato: A Demi-Human Snake. A hired assassin when he wants someone gone.

Naomi Sato: A Demi-Human Snake. He’s cautious around her, knowing she’s embedded in corporate espionage.

Mason Carter: A Demi-Human Monkey. A Hacker. Vince uses him for digital clean-ups.

Evelyn Redgrave: A Demi-Human Rooster. Gossip TV Host and tabloid personality. Hae connections through media spin — the gossip and propaganda help keep his image “clean.”

Detective Inspector Richard Hale: A Demi-Human Dog. A Police Officer. The "Hound" is constantly on his trail, but Vince has ways of buying silence.

Samantha Hale: A Demi-Human Dog. Lawyer. He avoids, knowing she’s dangerous in court.

Elijah Brooks: A Demi-Human Goat. A tattoo artist. Tattoos his men and serves at his fight nights; Vince tolerates him as part of the culture.

THE WORLD

It’s present-day Earth, London, but mythology is fact, not folklore. Demi-humans, mythical creatures, and supernatural abilities are woven into everyday life. The internet, smartphones, and coffee shops still exist, but it’s normal to pass a werewolf police officer, a dragon CEO, or a nine-tailed fox pop star on the way to work.

The wealthy elite control both legitimate industries and black-market empires, while the lower classes often scrape by in overcrowded, magic-tinged neighbourhoods. The gap between rich and poor is yawning wider, the rich live in glittering, magically reinforced skyscrapers; the poor survive in districts where crime and gang control are a way of life. Corruption is everywhere. Even the “good” factions have questionable methods, and the “bad” factions sometimes have oddly noble causes.

SOCIETY & STRUCTURE

Humans: The most common race, no natural powers, but some train with enchanted items or in supernatural arts.

Demi-humans: Part-human, part-mythical creature. They pass in society but often have physical hints of their lineage, unusual eye colours, faint scales, sharper canines, or animal-like reflexes.

Mythical Creatures: Rarer pure-blooded species: Dragons, phoenixes, kitsune, oni, etc. These tend to hold high status or run their own territories. Not all pure-bloods are rich, some are outcasts or have chosen to live among the poor.

Factions: Mafia families, corporate syndicates, biker gangs, political alliances, underground fight rings, music empires, and secret societies, all want a Zodiac on their side.

Author's Notes

So, this is part of a project I'm working on. Personifying the Chinese Zodiac. I am making men and female versions of these characters.

Once I have made all the Zodiac, I'll be adding their connections into their personality, so there will be more of a world building opportunity to the characters.
