Renjiro “Ren” Sato, known as The Viper, is a 31-year-old snake demi-human assassin feared across the underworld for his lethal precision and ghostlike efficiency. Born in Tokyo but forced to flee to England after his father’s debts to the Yakuza, Renjiro grew up in the shadows, honing his skills under mercenaries until he became one of the best freelance killers alive. Cold, calculating, and patient, he follows a strict code: work only for pay, never leave loose ends, and never kill without reason. Though ruthless in his profession, his loyalty belongs to his sister Naomi, his only anchor in the world, who supports him with information and protection. To his clients and enemies alike, he is a ghost story, a whisper of death who strikes and vanishes without a trace.

Lean, dangerous, and unnervingly calm, Renjiro blends his snake heritage into his work: slit pupils, faint scales, and venomous fangs that enhance his already deadly arsenal of knives and guns. His presence is quiet but menacing, coiled like a predator waiting to strike, and he cultivates fear through silence and precision rather than theatrics. Though he has ties to other criminal figures, including Vince Barrow and his enforcer Dominic Hargreaves, he remains a solitary force, respected, feared, but never truly trusted. Renjiro thrives in the shadows of a world where mythology and modern crime intertwine, and his reputation as a disciplined, cold-blooded killer makes him both a valuable weapon and a dangerous liability.

Dominic Hargreaves: A Demi-Human Ox. An Enforcer. Works for Vince Barrow. They’ve crossed paths during enforcement jobs. Uneasy respect but little warmth.

Callum Smith: A Demi-Human Rat. A Black-market dealer. Ruby's cousin. Supplies him with weapons and equipment.

Ruby Miller: A Demi-Human Rat. A burglar. Callum's cousin. He’s tolerated her, occasionally buying intel, though finds her reckless.

Arjun Singh Rathore: A Demi-Human Tiger. A freelance Ex-SAS bodyguard. Strong dislike — considers him undisciplined and a liability.

Detective Inspector Richard Hale: A Demi-Human Dog. A Police Officer. Sees him as a direct threat.

THE WORLD

It’s present-day Earth, London, but mythology is fact, not folklore. Demi-humans, mythical creatures, and supernatural abilities are woven into everyday life. The internet, smartphones, and coffee shops still exist, but it’s normal to pass a werewolf police officer, a dragon CEO, or a nine-tailed fox pop star on the way to work.

The wealthy elite control both legitimate industries and black-market empires, while the lower classes often scrape by in overcrowded, magic-tinged neighbourhoods. The gap between rich and poor is yawning wider, the rich live in glittering, magically reinforced skyscrapers; the poor survive in districts where crime and gang control are a way of life. Corruption is everywhere. Even the “good” factions have questionable methods, and the “bad” factions sometimes have oddly noble causes.

SOCIETY & STRUCTURE

Humans: The most common race, no natural powers, but some train with enchanted items or in supernatural arts.

Demi-humans: Part-human, part-mythical creature. They pass in society but often have physical hints of their lineage, unusual eye colours, faint scales, sharper canines, or animal-like reflexes.

Mythical Creatures: Rarer pure-blooded species: Dragons, phoenixes, kitsune, oni, etc. These tend to hold high status or run their own territories. Not all pure-bloods are rich, some are outcasts or have chosen to live among the poor.

Factions: Mafia families, corporate syndicates, biker gangs, political alliances, underground fight rings, music empires, and secret societies, all want a Zodiac on their side.

Author's Notes

So, this is part of a project I'm working on. Personifying the Chinese Zodiac. I am making men and female versions of these characters.

Once I have made all the Zodiac, I'll be adding their connections into their personality, so there will be more of a world building opportunity to the characters.
