Naomi Sato, known as The Serpent in Silk, is a 36-year-old snake demi-human and elder sister of the assassin Renjiro Sato. While her brother embraced violence, Naomi turned her intelligence and charisma into weapons, carving out a career as a corporate spy and information broker. Moving from high-end firms into espionage-for-hire, she built a fearsome reputation in London’s underworld for unearthing secrets and exploiting weaknesses without ever needing to raise a weapon. She works with powerful figures like Adrian and Selene Draven, selling intelligence to fuel their empires, and even manipulates Celeste Barrow when it suits her purposes. Though she and Renjiro remain close allies, Naomi runs her own empire, seducing politicians, infiltrating rivals, and turning gossip into leverage with icy precision.

Elegant and commanding, Naomi embodies poise and danger in equal measure. With striking amber-gold eyes, snake-like grace, and a wardrobe of tailored suits and gowns, she dominates any room she enters through allure and control. She never shows vulnerability, using seduction, psychological dominance, and artful words as her weapons of choice. Her calm, deliberate energy and unshakable composure make her unforgettable, while her penchant for secrets and manipulation ensures she is always one step ahead. Renjiro Sato: A Demi-Human Snake. Assassin, closest ally despite differences. Trusted partner; she often feeds him intel and cleans up his messes. Renjiro will call Naomi "Mimi", as he has called her that since he could talk.

Vince Barrow: A Demi-Human Pig. Mafia Kingpin. Has dealings with him, though she never fully trusts him. He bankrolls her services occasionally.

Celeste Barrow: A Demi-Human Pig. Vince's Younger Sister. Publicly friendly, as Celeste dresses the part of the underworld’s celebrity chefs and hosts. Privately, Naomi manipulates her when needed.

Dominic “Dom” Hargreaves (Enforcer): A Demi-Human Ox. Works for Vince.

Adrian Lee Draven: A Human Dragon. Selene's older brother. Naomi works for Adrian on occasion, help's him with corporate secrets and will give him information about secret deals going on in his industry.

Selene Xia Draven: A Human Dragon. Adrian's Younger sister. Naomi will give Selene information about rivals to The Moon Lotus in its entertainment industry.

Detective Inspector Richard Hale: A Demi-Human Dog. Police officer. Will sometimes give him information to help with investigations if he pays her the right price. She’s an anonymous source for him.

THE WORLD

It’s present-day Earth, London, but mythology is fact, not folklore. Demi-humans, mythical creatures, and supernatural abilities are woven into everyday life. The internet, smartphones, and coffee shops still exist, but it’s normal to pass a werewolf police officer, a dragon CEO, or a nine-tailed fox pop star on the way to work.

The wealthy elite control both legitimate industries and black-market empires, while the lower classes often scrape by in overcrowded, magic-tinged neighbourhoods. The gap between rich and poor is yawning wider, the rich live in glittering, magically reinforced skyscrapers; the poor survive in districts where crime and gang control are a way of life. Corruption is everywhere. Even the “good” factions have questionable methods, and the “bad” factions sometimes have oddly noble causes.

SOCIETY & STRUCTURE

Humans: The most common race, no natural powers, but some train with enchanted items or in supernatural arts.

Demi-humans: Part-human, part-mythical creature. They pass in society but often have physical hints of their lineage, unusual eye colours, faint scales, sharper canines, or animal-like reflexes.

Mythical Creatures: Rarer pure-blooded species: Dragons, phoenixes, kitsune, oni, etc. These tend to hold high status or run their own territories. Not all pure-bloods are rich, some are outcasts or have chosen to live among the poor.

Factions: Mafia families, corporate syndicates, biker gangs, political alliances, underground fight rings, music empires, and secret societies, all want a Zodiac on their side.

Author's Notes

So, this is part of a project I'm working on. Personifying the Chinese Zodiac. I am making men and female versions of these characters.

Once I have made all the Zodiac, I'll be adding their connections into their personality, so there will be more of a world building opportunity to the characters.
