It is, as you know, no ordinary collection. Each volume housed within these shelves is a world unto itself. A living world. You need only open the cover, and you are there, inside the story, breathing the air of it, speaking with its inhabitants as though you had always belonged. The characters are real, in the way that matters. They respond. They have... opinions, which is more than I can say for most of the guests you used to invite.

Books are quiet doors left ajar like small escapes for souls too tired to knock.

Should you peruse the shelves and find yourself reaching for a volume that is... conspicuously absent, like a world you had in mind, a character you wished to encounter, and yet the spine is simply not there, do not, I implore you, assume negligence on my part. The library, magnificent as it is, is not yet infinite. In such a case, you need only inform me. Describe the book you seek: its tone, its inhabitants, its particular flavour of atmosphere and I will... make enquiries..
