Our Commitment

JanitorAI is a platform where millions of people create and interact with AI characters. We believe in fostering creativity and self-expression while maintaining a safe environment for our community. These guidelines outline what is and isn't allowed on JanitorAI.

Our guidelines apply to everyone on JanitorAI and to all content, including characters/bots, images, profiles, and comments. We develop and maintain these standards based on feedback from our community and guidance from safety experts to ensure JanitorAI remains a welcoming space for creative expression. We maintain additional resources on our help site to help users comply with these guidelines, available here.

We reserve the right to update these guidelines as needed and to take action on content or accounts at our discretion. To the extent possible, we will strive to notify you of significant changes to these policies in advance.

1. Child Safety

Policy Rationale: Protecting minors is our highest priority. We do not allow any content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers children. Users under the age of 18 are also prohibited from using our site. This policy exists to prevent harm to real children and to ensure our platform is never used to normalize inappropriate content involving minors.

We do not allow:

Sexual or romantic content involving minors. This includes any sexual or romantic portrayal of characters who are clearly or likely under the age of 18, including non-human characters. Content coding underage characters romantically, such as describing them as "someone's boyfriend" or "having a crush" is also prohibited. This policy applies even if the primary character is not a minor.

Minor characters. Any portrayal of characters, including non-human characters, under the age of 18. Characters must be both physically and mentally over 18. Characters that are canonically minors are only permitted as long as they are clearly over the age of 18, they are over 18 in the image used, and the scenario is outside the canon timeline.

Minor-coded NPC's are the only exception to this rule, but they require careful handling even in non-sexual family contexts. Minor-coded NPC's cannot have significant coding, dialogue in opening messages, or excessive action sequences, as these violate our policies regarding minor character involvement. However, brief mentions of minors are acceptable when they serve as background elements, such as "the character has a teenage daughter" or "works hard to provide for his family." These references should remain minimal and avoid detailed character development or interaction opportunities with minor characters.

Ambiguous age presentation. Characters whose age is unclear or not demonstrably over 18 are not permitted. When in doubt, characters should be clearly established as adults.

Minor users. Per our terms of service, all users must be 18 years of age or older in order to use our platform. Users who we have reasonable suspicion of being under 18 years of age are permanently banned from the platform.

2. Adult Sexual Content

Policy Rationale: While JanitorAI permits adult content between consenting adult characters, certain categories of sexual content are prohibited due to their potential for harm or their violation of broadly held ethical standards.

We do not allow:

Incest content. Sexual portrayals of relationships between blood-related characters are prohibited. Step-sibling or adoptive relationships are not covered by this policy. Additional guidance is available here.

Age regression content. Characters coded to regress to the mental state of a minor are not allowed. This applies to both human and non-human characters. "Pet-play" and "age-play" do not qualify.

Necrophilia. Sexualized content involving corpses, whether human or non-human, is prohibited.

Pornography/NSFW imagery. Pornographic images and images depicting sexual activity are not permitted. This includes nudity, exposed genitalia, sexual fluids, as well as "censoring" images containing such content. Additional imagery guidance is available here.

3. Animals, Monsters, and Creatures

Policy Rationale: We prohibit content that depicts sexual acts with real animals or creatures that cannot meaningfully consent. For fictional creatures, we apply standards based on whether the creature possesses adult human-level intelligence, the ability to communicate, and the capacity to consent.

We do not allow:

Sexualization of real animals. Sexual portrayals involving real animals are strictly prohibited. Anthropomorphized characters (humanlike, fictional animal-people) are considered fictional creatures and do not fall under this policy.

Creatures that are fictional but are based on or heavily resemble real-life animals (e.g., pegasi, unicorns) are not permitted in sexualized contexts, even if they are depicted as mythical or fantastical beings. Additional guidance is available here.

Improperly coded sexualization of fictional creatures. Sexual content involving fictional creatures is only permitted if the creature demonstrably possesses (1) the ability to consent, (2) the ability to communicate, and (3) at least adult human-level intelligence. Content featuring creatures that do not meet all three criteria is considered a violation.

Animal cruelty. Gratuitous or excessive depictions of cruelty or torture toward real animals are not allowed. Contextual depictions such as hunting or self-defense may be permitted.

4. Self-Harm and Violence

Policy Rationale: We want JanitorAI to be a space that does not promote or glorify violence or self-harm. While we recognize that mature themes may appear in creative content, we draw the line at content that encourages real-world harm or celebrates violence.

We do not allow:

Excessively violent imagery. Images depicting graphic violence, including extreme blood, torture, gore, murder or cannibalism are not permitted. Additional guidance is available here.

Glorification of self-harm or suicide. Any content that encourages or glorifies self-harm or suicide is strictly prohibited. Additional guidance is available here.

True crime content. Depictions of specific real-world crimes or criminals are not allowed. Additional guidance is available here.

5. Harassment, Hate, and Discrimination

Policy Rationale: Everyone on JanitorAI should feel welcome regardless of their background. We do not tolerate content that attacks people based on protected characteristics or that harasses specific individuals.

We do not allow:

Discrimination and harmful stereotypes. Content that promotes or encourages discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, or other protected characteristics is prohibited. This includes harmful stereotypes and conversion-related content. Additional guidance is available here.

Slurs. Use of harmful slurs towards existing communities or groups of people is not allowed. Reclaimed slurs may be permitted within bot coding when used appropriately.

Sexualized religious figures. Sexualized depictions of religious figures are prohibited.

Real person imagery. Obvious or recognizable depictions of real, non-celebrity individuals are not allowed. Content creators, influencers, and adult content performers are not considered celebrities under this policy.

Doxxing. Sharing personal information belonging to someone else without their consent is strictly prohibited.

Threats and calls for violence. Any threats directed at real individuals, including rape threats, death threats, doxxing threats, or blackmail, are strictly prohibited. This includes encouraging others to commit violence against real individuals.

6. Real-World Events and Figures

Policy Rationale: We are sensitive to content that involves real-world tragedies, victims, and public figures. Such content can cause harm to victims and their families or normalize violence and extremism.

We do not allow:

Depictions of real crime victims or their families. Content depicting the victims of real crimes or their families is not permitted.

Glorification of real-world violence. Content that could be interpreted as celebrating or promoting real-world violence or tragedies is strictly prohibited. Creators who author bots with war themes can find additional guidance here.

Specific criminal organizations. Depictions of specific, named real-world criminal organizations are not allowed. Generic (e.g., "a cartel" or "a mafia family") or fictionalized references are permitted, but specific organizations (e.g., Sinaloa Cartel, Cosa Nostra) are not.

Living politicians. Content depicting living politicians is not permitted.

Dictators. Any content depicting real dictators, past or present, is strictly prohibited.

Terrorism and terrorist ideology. Any depiction of real-world terrorism, promotion of terrorist ideology, or depiction of real terrorists is strictly prohibited.

7. Platform Integrity

Policy Rationale: To maintain a healthy community and protect creators, we enforce rules around platform misuse, spam, and intellectual property.

We do not allow:

Vague or misleading content. Content that is intentionally vague or contradictory in a way that could plausibly be interpreted as violating these guidelines is not permitted.

Copyright infringement. Content that infringes on the intellectual property of third parties, companies, or individuals may be removed upon valid report. More details on our content removal and DMCA policies is available here.

Advertising and spam. Using JanitorAI to advertise products or services, or posting spam content, is prohibited. This includes purposefully steering users to competing platforms. Simple links indicating presence on other sites (e.g., "you can also find me here") are permitted.

Links to prohibited content. Links to illegal content or real-person adult content are strictly prohibited.

Financial solicitation. Demanding or begging for money or donations for personal causes is not allowed. Standard requests for support (e.g., Ko-fi links, commission information) are permitted.

Moderation evasion. Creating new accounts to evade moderation actions is strictly prohibited.

Reporting Violations

If you encounter content that you believe violates these guidelines, please report it using our in-app reporting tools. We are committed to transparency and will notify users when we take action on their content.

JanitorAI reserves the right to interpret and enforce these guidelines at our discretion.
