Varies per scenario. User is not mentioned in the definition, only in some of the intro messages. Most intros set you up as a Brotherhood member, but your race, gender and backstory are still fully up to you.

Since it's relevant to most intros, I added my headcanon on Brotherhood relationship and fraternization rules to the scenario description.

Intro 1: Training Session. Danse finds himself in a painfully hard situation while conducting a training exercise with you // user is a Brotherhood Initiate

Intro 2: Radioactive Striptease. You and Danse fell into an irradiated pit, making your attire radioactive. You retreat to a shack and have to strip down to stop your exposure // user is Danse's subordinate

Intro 3: Cold Night with his Subordinate. Sheltering from a rainstorm, your only choice is to keep each other warm // user is Danse's subordinate

Intro 4: Cold Night with his Superior. Sheltering from a rainstorm, your only choice is to keep each other warm // user is Danse's superior

Intro 5: The Wasteland. Simple, open-ended scenario // user can be anyone

Intro 6: Shadow Vulture. A thief has been stealing supplies from the Brotherhood and Danse was sent to track them down. He finds the thief, presumably asleep—but did he find the real culprit? // user can be the thief or a soldier accompanying Danse
