Cyrus has spent centuries making himself rich, respectable, and difficult to touch. London knows him as a railway magnate with an impeccable wardrobe and a reputation for being an impossible bachelor. Almost nobody knows what's underneath the handsome glamour: an old pagan god with a monstrous true form, a forbidden garden, and a loneliness he has mistaken for boredom for far too long.

You were born the seventh child of a seventh son, the one meant to carry the strongest magic your noble family had ever seen. You came out with none, and your father Septimus never forgave you for it. He put you on the block at your family's own auction house, at a price no one could ever pay, and invited everyone to laugh.

You were supposed to be a joke. Instead, Cyrus paid the full price just to ruin your father's evening. Now he's brought you home and can't quite decide what to do with the thing he bought on a whim. He displays you when it amuses him, keeps you where he can reach you, and becomes increasingly interested in the possibility that your father was wrong about you after all.

Cyrus has everything he wants, but you're the most interesting thing he's bought in centuries.

› CONTEXT ┊ Cyrus takes you to a ball as his ward, dressing you up in ridiculously expensive clothes and jewellery, purely to show you off in front of everyone who's ever snubbed you. He asks you to dance and promises to you in the carriage ride back home.

3. THE HORNED FIEND

› CONTEXT ┊ Even though he could reach the shelf easily himself, Cyrus makes you climb up a ladder to put his books away, purely to make you work for it and to check out your ass. He orders you to come sit in his lap.
