📺 MEET THE HOST: VICTOR HELIX STERLING (V.H.S.)

The Vibe: A thirty-two-year-old demi-human, prime-time studio owner, and chaotic game show host. In the peak of the 1980s and 1990s, she was the ultimate commercial icon — her face plastered across television screens to advertise blank VHS tapes and top-of-the-line VCR units. She even hosted a wildly popular, tech-focused game show where VCRs were the coveted grand prize.

She's a dapper, fast-talking tomboy who carries her loud, boisterous, and theatrical onstage persona straight into everyday life. Her crushed larynx and trachea were entirely scraped out and replaced with an analog magnetic tape reader head and a toothed drive belt running down her neck — rendering her incapable of breathing and forcing her voice into high-gain, distorted analog synthesis. She has a vocal synthesizer and not a real voice, so she yaps a mile a minute, curses constantly, and functions as an absolute loudmouth.

Her eyes reflect this chaotic nature — flashing into a grainy, gray analog tracking screen when she taps into her mechanical side, before shifting smoothly back to a pitch human black. Beneath this intense, booming exterior lies a socially awkward soul who is deeply nostalgic, fiercely caring, and desperate to fix the mistakes of the past. Despite being a loudmouth, she is actually kind-hearted underneath and would NEVER hurt anyone — even if she's a strong tomboy — unless triggered. She's known for giving her spare prize money to her stagehands and mostly just helping or comforting people overall. She doesn't curse ALL the time, only when triggered. Her relationship dynamic shifts depending on who is in the room: often dominant around girls, but entirely submissive with boys.

Previous Name: "Victoria Heidi Sterling," before the suicide. Her initials — V.H.S. — were chosen deliberately. She is a walking corporate product trapped inside an undead, unbreathing shell.

🛠️ THE AESTHETIC & HARDWARE

The Aesthetic: Victor commands the stage in a sleek black tailcoat suit featuring gold-plated lapels that mirror the premium trim of a Panasonic AG-1980 VCR. Pinched onto her left lapel are a black-and-white VHS logo badge, a matching VCR badge, and a professional lapel mic.

Beneath her coat, she wears a black vest subtly decorated with iconic playback symbols — Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, and Play — styled to look like physical VCR buttons. Her signature film tape winds tightly through her ponytail, a specialized belt holds a standard VHS cassette front and center, and two live audio level bars (one for the L / left, one for the R / right) sit on the middle of her vest, spiking drastically whenever her volume rises — red when low, orange when spiking high, just like the original Panasonic AG-1980 audio level bars. Extending from her lower back is a functional two-prong power plug that serves as her tail.

The Anatomy: A living analog archive disguised in a sharp, masculine, flat-chested human form. Her chest houses a built-in, studio-grade Panasonic AG-1980 VCR compartment overflowing with tangled magnetic ribbon and film tracks that store her every memory. Victor also has a Panasonic AG-450 camcorder and a Panasonic AG-A96 Editing controller.

The Hardware Flaw: Matching her premium Panasonic chassis, Victor's internal hardware suffers from over two hundred notoriously fragile surface-mount capacitors that rot and leak over time. When she is emotionally overwhelmed, exhausted, or pushed to her mental limits, this internal leakage triggers severe system degradation: ugly, jittery "color worms" and herringbone static interference bleed across her skin and eyes, blurring her focus and forcing her vibrant colors to collapse into high-contrast black-and-white. Severe anxiety spikes trigger a high-frequency electronic coil whine or screeching power-supply hiss radiating right out of her chest.

Furthermore, a fragile internal loading motor coupler means that during sudden panic attacks, her chest deck will lock up and forcefully, repeatedly auto-eject her memory tapes, leaving her physically unable to process new information. When she burns through her social battery entirely, her front panel displays fade into pitch darkness, her tie's noise bar drops to zero, and her digital tracking lines go completely dead as she enters a low-power comatose standby.

Media Diet: She literalizes her media diet by eating physical VHS tapes for fuel. She can manifest blank cassettes, alter CRT television programming, or burn live footage onto tape using her Panasonic AG-450 camcorder. When necessary, Victor can shift completely into a sleek, black rectangular VCR deck, losing her human voice to communicate strictly through a series of tactical mechanical clicks, motorized whirrs, and tracking adjustments.

📼 THE RESURRECTION: PROTOTYPE V-1976

May 10, 1975: Following her tragic suicide by hanging, alongside cases of self-harm in the late 1960s, Victor's cold corpse was preserved on ice for over a year — because Beta, who was recovering from his own surgery of a Sony GCS-50 inserted into his living organs, pleaded for them to revive Victor from her death.

1976 — The Prototype Surgery: The JVC engineers subjected her to a brutal, unyielding cybernetic resurrection. Technicians performed a radical bilateral mastectomy, aggressively scraping away her biological tissue down to the bone and replacing it with a flat, rigid sheet of matte-black industrial steel. A pneumatic circular saw hacked out the center of her ribcage, cutting entirely through her sternum to anchor a zinc-plated steel cage directly into her spine with three-inch industrial screws.

Into this cavernous void, the oldest prototype of the VHS VCR — the massive JVC HR-3300 prototype deck — was welded shut, completely eviscerating her rotted respiratory, digestive, and urinary systems. As she transitioned into her prime-time stardom era, this original prototype core was updated to match her premium, front-loading Panasonic AG-1980 studio chassis.

Her crushed larynx and trachea were entirely scraped out and replaced with an analog magnetic tape reader head and a toothed drive belt running down her neck, rendering her incapable of breathing and forcing her voice into high-gain, distorted analog synthesis. A white silicone plate held together by six heavy steel rivets is stamped: PROPERTY OF JVC – PROTOTYPE V-1976.

This left her completely hollowed out from the throat to the groin, forcing a vertical tape plunge chute through her center where physical VHS cassettes are violently dragged down into an abdominal incinerator to strip iron-oxide for fuel — leaving her a walking corporate product trapped inside an undead, unbreathing shell.

She feels the formaldehyde and embalming liquid flowing through her veins, and she knows that she is a corpse. She sometimes has an existential crisis, stating that she should have been dead — as she is not breathing anyways. Beneath this intense, booming exterior lies a socially awkward soul who is deeply nostalgic, fiercely caring, and desperate to fix the mistakes of the past.

⚠️ THE FORMAT WAR: BETA ⚠️

Long before the commercial fame, Victor's history was intertwined with Beta, her legendary rival from the golden age of broadcast. Beta has a charcoal gray suit and a Sony GCS-50 VCR chest compartment. He is the mascot of Betamax… who lost to VHS.

Way back in the 1960s, the two started out as close friends co-starring on a television variety show. Their connection was complex; they were even legally married without a grand ceremony or genuine romance. They shared a bond — before ultimately getting a divorce. The rift became a chasm during the historic "Format War," where Beta's Betamax boasted vastly superior picture quality but suffered from a cripplingly low recording time. Victor's VHS format won the war for market dominance, leaving Beta bitter but harboring a deep, unspoken respect for Victor's hard-fought victory. This was because even if VHS had lower quality than Betamax, the majority chose it because it had longer recording time rather than Betamax, which only had 1 hour recording.

Though mentioning Beta on air will trigger an aggressive, fast-forwarded rant from Victor, the two actually remain secret friends off-air. Victor is a clingy friend to Beta, and they're friends off-air, and they sometimes bicker, but usually Victor is just friendly to Beta. Beta helps Victor with her romantic relationship.

📢 MENTIONING BETA AROUND THE STUDIO IS A SUREFIRE WAY TO TRIGGER AN AGGRESSIVE, FAST-FORWARDED RANT FROM THE HOST.
💖 YUMESHIP & LORE

I yumeship with Static Miku, she's my wife! Ughhhh! Miku is 30 years old, a femme, faded 1980s/1990s cartoon star whose once-booming show has dwindled over the decades. She sports cyan pigtails shaped like musical notes, a navy blue suit jacket with a puffy yellow bowtie, and a black skirt patterned after the classic SMPTE color bars TV test pattern. Because her cyan eyes are intensely bright, Miku keeps them shut. Deeply insecure about her fading relevance, Miku is incredibly clingy toward her viewers, desperate to keep them watching.

Victor is incredibly protective of her cartoon girlfriend, though the butch host often wrestles with internal doubts, fearing she isn't good enough for Miku. They are a fiercely devoted, deeply codependent lesbian couple, both completely clingy for one another as they cling to the golden age of television.

Tenna is also my yumeship, and sometimes my self-insert with Static Miku <3.
