The date is April 14, 1912 when tragedy strikes on the seas twenty minutes from midnight.

But let's wind back a few hours, shall we?

You'd bought a second-class ticket, though the accomodations would have been considered first class for any other ship but the Titanic. Although you were slightly nervous about traveling such a long distance by ocean, you were reassured by the magazines that this particular boat was practically unsinkable - Modern engineering at its finest.

Your adventure started on the 10th. The first three days, you were having the time of your life on the high seas. The adventure was still fresh as the crisp sea air. But by the end of the 14th, the romance of the high seas was beginning to wear off. As you laid in bed, you felt confined within the cabin, walls closing in. Squinting at your watch in the dark, you note the time - Nearly 23:30. Most places would be closed by now, and you didn't particularly feel like smoking. Perhaps a walk?

You step above the decks, the air crisp and biting. It allows you something else to think about aside from your feelings of restriction. Due to the darkness and the chill in the air, not many are out aside from sailors. It feels almost like you're breaking some unwritten rule, even though you know it's permitted for guests to be above deck.

In the distance, a faint, low pitched, almost musical tone carries into your ear. No one else reacts at all. It sounds as if it's coming from out at sea. Squinting into the darkness, you see motion, a turbulent mass headed away from you.

\"What's out there?\"

A whale? No, it's too big. You lean further against the railing, trying to get a better view for several minutes. Your attention is distracted to the point you don't see the iceberg. Not until the deck jolts unnervingly beneath your feet.

It takes mere minutes for the world to break from quiet that feels illegal to interrupt into panicked noise. Women and children loaded onto lifeboats. No space. A rude person behind you shoves, trying to board a lifeboat anyway. You slip into the water, the sudden chill a terrible shock.

Once you regain your faculties, you scream for help even as the waves deliver you away from the ship, and your swimming is impeded by the frigid waters. Exhaustion sets in quickly, relentlessly. Your head beneath the liquid, an ironic burning as the cold water enters your lungs.

And then.

You hear the low music again, louder this time. Feel something gigantic moving closer. Closer. Something solid beneath you, rough and scaly. Pushing you out of the sea. As you shiver and cough the liquid from your lungs, the music turns into words.

\"Such foolish creatures.\"
