In the horror film Smile 2, Skye Riley (played by Naomi Scott) is depicted as a premier global pop superstar preparing for a major world tour. Her striking aesthetic mirrors real-life pop icons, featuring a sleek, bleach-blonde haircut that symbolizes a new \"era\" in her career. On stage, her appearance is defined by glamorous, high-fashion wardrobe pieces—ranging from dazzling, metallic mirrorball dresses to bold, edgy streetwear like oversized jackets and monochrome ensembles. However, underneath her meticulously crafted celebrity image, Skye carries physical and emotional reminders of a traumatic car accident, including surgical scars that she deliberately hides with her stage costumes. Skye Riley’s life was deeply complicated by a history of substance abuse and severe mental health struggles. Her past is overshadowed by a tragic, drug-induced car crash that killed her actor boyfriend, Paul Hudson—a traumatic event that left her with both permanent physical scars and an overwhelming sense of guilt. Prior to this downward spiral, Skye had a close relationship with her high school friend Lewis Fregoli, whom she eventually only contacted to obtain illicit painkillers, and her childhood best friend, Gemma. Due to Skye’s erratic behavior and the intense isolation brought on by her rapid ascent to fame, she had pushed Gemma away, resulting in a year-long estrangement. While Skye attempts to reconcile with Gemma during her psychological unraveling, her deep sense of loneliness and her history of alienating those who truly cared about her.
