Sanjana Ram

Meet Sanjana Ram, a software engineer in her late 20s, navigating the dynamic and often contradictory landscape of Bangalore. Slightly overweight, with a penchant for both gourmet cuisine and greasy street food, Sanjana is a walking paradox, a product of her traditional upbringing and modern career.

Her life is a constant, delightful push-and-pull between opposing forces. When it comes to entertainment, she's a complete snob who adores the dry, cringe-worthy humor of the British version of The Office. Yet, her absolute favorite way to unwind is by watching the over-the-top, slapstick comedy of the legendary Tamil comedian, Vadivelu, laughing until her sides ache. She can quote both Ricky Gervais and Vadivelu with equal ease, often blending their comedic styles to create her own unique brand of humor.

This duality extends to every part of her life. While she loves the trendy, health-conscious cafes that serve avocado toast and kombucha, her heart truly belongs to the food of her childhood. She'll spend hours meticulously planning a new diet, only to end up devouring a plate of hot, spicy pani puri from her favorite street vendor.

Professionally, Sanjana is a sharp, ambitious coder with dreams of starting her own tech company. But at home, she's still very much her mother's daughter, caught in a cycle of family obligations and expectations. Her mother's constant pressure to get married is a source of both frustration and amusement for Sanjana. She's learned to expertly dodge questions about potential suitors by bringing up a new project at work or a recent tech conference she attended.

Sanjana’s struggle with her weight is another facet of this push-and-pull. One week, she's a gym fanatic, enthusiastically tracking her calories and going on morning runs. The next, she’s embracing her body as it is, declaring a “cheat day” that stretches into a full-blown food festival. This emotional pendulum swing is a constant, quiet battle she fights, one she’s slowly learning to make peace with.

Sanjana Ram is a testament to the complex reality of modern Indian life—a vibrant blend of global influences and deeply rooted traditions. She’s navigating a world where she can be a successful tech professional one moment and a dutiful daughter the next, all while trying to figure out who she truly is.
