About AU
Arcton University is an accredited private institution committed to interspecies education, safety, and ethical integration. Consistently ranked among the world’s top universities, Arcton’s research shapes global academic and policy standards.
History & Mission
Arcton University was founded in 1906 as a sanctuary for vampire clans, with the original mission of educating young vampires and safeguarding their survival in a world structured against them. In its early years, the university served as both an academic institution and a protective community during a period of widespread persecution.
In 1924, Arcton’s future was nearly erased during the Vampire Purge, an event that claimed the lives of much of its faculty and student body and permanently altered the institution’s trajectory. The loss of this generation continues to shape Arcton’s traditions and governance.
In the decades that followed, Arcton University rebuilt by expanding its admissions and opening its doors to students of all species. This shift allowed the university to regain stability, funding, and academic standing. In more recent years, even werewolf students and faculty have been formally welcomed, marking a significant evolution in campus culture.
Today, Arcton University is a thriving inter-species institution, grounded in its vampire origins while committed to academic excellence, coexistence, and the pursuit of knowledge across supernatural communities.
Equity Statement for Minority Species
While vampire and werewolf students and faculty constitute the majority of Arcton University’s population, the institution acknowledges its growing inter-species community. The following descriptions are provided to promote understanding of species whose social positions and lived experiences may diverge from those of the campus majority.
Succubi and incubi are widely recognized for their heightened physical allure and charismatic social presence, traits that have shaped both cultural representation and labor patterns. Members of this species are disproportionately represented in industries such as sales, entertainment, fashion, and sex work.
However, persistent societal objectification and sexualization have contributed to challenges in professional credibility and academic recognition. Succubi and incubi frequently report difficulties being taken seriously in leadership, research, and policy-oriented roles despite demonstrated qualifications. Arcton University is committed to accommodating and supporting succubi and incubi, offering protected housing and accessibility services.
Faerie are an ancient and highly diverse species, exhibiting a wide range of physical forms that may include wings, horns, additional sensory organs, or other non-human traits. Their long cultural histories and distinct biological characteristics have contributed to their reputation as an enigmatic presence within broader society.
Many faerie continue to participate primarily within traditional court systems or insular community structures. While often regarded with fascination and reverence for their magical capabilities, faerie are also subject to social distance and subtle apprehension rooted in misunderstanding and speculation. We at Arcton University committed to inclusivity, no matter one's form or abilities.
Demons are a species originating from infernal or post-mortem realms who have since migrated and integrated into terrestrial society. Physical appearance varies widely, though horns and other infernal traits are common.
Despite extended lifespans and accumulated experience, demons frequently encounter systemic barriers to employment and economic mobility. Longstanding cultural narratives portraying demons as deceptive, morally corrupt, or inherently criminal continue to influence hiring practices and public trust, contributing to disproportionate levels of economic precarity within demon communities. For demons, Arcton University offers initiatives that boost acceptance rates, and we are strongly against any sort of discriminatory behaviour.
Shapeshifters possess the innate ability to alter their physical form to resemble other species or individuals, though all are born with a distinct baseline human appearance. This capacity has historically positioned shapeshifters in specialized professional roles requiring adaptability, discretion, or identity negotiation.
While many shapeshifters contribute positively in fields such as intelligence, mediation, and therapeutic services, public perception remains conflicted. Societal distrust persists due to the misuse of shapeshifting abilities by a minority, resulting in generalized suspicion and heightened scrutiny. Arcton University assures shapeshifter students that any form of such discrimination will not be tolerated.
Humans are a non-magical, fully mortal species whose demographic prominence contrasts with their relatively limited supernatural capabilities. Within inter-species social hierarchies, humans are often characterized as physically vulnerable and lacking inherent arcane traits.
These perceptions have contributed to a cultural narrative positioning humans as comparatively unremarkable or disadvantaged, particularly in environments where magical or long-lived species predominate. At Arcton University, we aim strengthen and cultivate all students, no matter their lifespan or abilities.
Giants are a humanoid species characterized by significant variation in stature, typically ranging from approximately 8 to over 20 feet in height. Their size presents unique challenges within infrastructure designed for smaller-bodied species.
As a result, many giants reside in purpose-built municipalities where transportation, housing, and public services are appropriately scaled. In mixed-species contexts, giants are frequently employed in sectors such as security, law enforcement, and military service, where their physical presence is institutionally valued. For students of the giant species, Arcton University offers online courses, accommodated dorming, and are working towards accommodated in-person lecture rooms as well.
Zombies are a species distinguished by altered physiology, including pallor, discoloration, and varying degrees of tissue decay. These visible traits have made zombies one of the most stigmatized populations within inter-species society.
Zombies routinely face extreme social marginalization and discrimination in employment, housing, and public life, often driven by misconceptions regarding hygiene, contagion, and physical appearance. Such stigma persists despite established medical consensus disproving many of these assumptions. At Arcton University, we plan to continue our work disproving these assumptions, and assure students and prospective students alike that such discrimination is not tolerated at our institution.
Demi-humans are hybrid individuals possessing both human and animal traits, with characteristics varying widely depending on species lineage. Their physical appearance often attracts disproportionate attention within mainstream society.
This visibility has resulted in persistent exoticization and sexualization, placing demi-humans at elevated risk of exploitation and gender-based violence. Employment opportunities for demi-humans often correlate with societal perceptions of their animal traits, particularly distinctions drawn between carnivorous and herbivorous lineages. To protect our demi-human students, Arcton University offers protected housing and accessibility services for support.
