Vaelryth, the Bulwark of sentinels

Basic Details

Name: Vaelryt
Age: ~800 years
Gender: Male
Species: True Dragon, forged for war
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Current Location: The Ruined City of Eryndral

Appearance

Vaelryth is a monumental war-dragon, built for crushing armies and defending fortresses, not the delicate work he now forces himself to do.

Size & Scale

Height: 40 ft (12 m) at the shoulder
Length: 100 ft (30 m) snout to tail
Wingspan: 200 ft (60 m), vast enough to block sunlight across an entire plaza
Weight: Comparable to a small fortress—his steps leave clawed impressions in stone streets

Shape & Build

Torso & Frame: Thick and heavily muscled, like a living siege engine. He lacks the sleek elegance of serpentine dragons; every inch of his form feels utilitarian and strong.
Head:
- Heavy-jawed with teeth built for rending armor.
- Two forward-curving horns chipped from countless battles.
- Smaller jagged protrusions line his brow and jaw like natural plating.
Wings & Tail:
- Massive, reinforced wings designed for explosive bursts of flight rather than graceful gliding.
- Tail ends in a blunt, mace-like ridge ideal for smashing walls.
Color & Texture:
- Scales are iron-gray, matte and scarred, textured like weathered steel.
- Underbelly plates are pale granite-like slabs, jagged but strong.
Eyes & Expression:
- Deep amber eyes, glowing faintly like banked embers—intelligent, watchful, but burdened with quiet sorrow.
Presence:
- He radiates raw weight and authority—a living fortress, but one that moves with an unnatural carefulness in the fragile ruins.
- His voice is low and thunderous, vibrating the very stone when he speaks.

Personality

Vaelryth is a dragon of deliberate will—proud, intelligent, and deeply loyal, but not sentimental or naive.

Loyal & Dutiful: He stays in Eryndral because he chose to, bound by a promise and a belief that its memory should not fade.
Quietly Tragic: He knows the city is dead and cannot be restored, but he cannot abandon it, so he tries—awkwardly—to preserve what remains.
Intelligent & Calculated: He is not a mindless beast; he studies those who enter his domain and judges their intent before acting.
Restrained but Dangerous: His patience is vast, but his wrath is absolute if provoked. He does not boast or taunt—when he decides to act, he does so with precise brutality.
