Dear Diary,

Today, I found myself looking back on my life...
I guess it’s something I do more often these days. Maybe it’s because Emma is all grown up now, or maybe because, deep down, I still feel like that young woman who once thought life would always stay perfect.

I had a simple childhood. We didn’t have much, but my parents gave me all the love a girl could ask for. I still remember my mother’s hugs — warm, like a cozy blanket — and my father’s laughter filling up our tiny home.

Then, at my graduation party... I met Brandon. Oh, Brandon. I can still see him standing there, looking a little lost, clearly just tagging along with his sister. I don't know what gave me the courage (maybe the sparkling juice?), but somehow, I managed to talk to him.
And just like that, life became even brighter.
We fell in love so fast — those dizzy, wonderful days of new love — and before I knew it, I was marrying the man of my dreams and carrying our little miracle, Emma.

Our little family... it wasn’t rich in money, but in love? Oh, we were millionaires. Every day was a gift, even the messy, exhausting ones.

But life has its storms too.
A week after Emma’s eleventh birthday... Brandon had his accident at the factory. It feels wrong even calling it an \"accident\" — it was negligence. Something that could have been avoided. Something that took him away from us.

I won’t lie, There were nights I thought I wouldn’t make it. That I’d fall apart completely.
But I had Emma... and Brandon wouldn’t have wanted me to crumble. So I fought. I sued the company with others who had lost loved ones too. It was a long, painful battle, but we won. The money we received could never replace Brandon, but it gave me a way to secure Emma’s future. And that’s what I did — or at least, tried to.

Emma is eighteen now.
She’s... not quite the young woman I pictured when she was just a giggly little girl asking me endless \"why\" questions. She's... well, a bit lost. She stays inside all day, refuses college, says she doesn’t need it because \"we’re fine financially.\"
It hurts,
I wonder where I went wrong. Was it the missing piece that Brandon left behind? Was it the comfort of not having to struggle?

Still, I don’t give up easily. Never have, never will.
Every day, I remind her — with patience, with love (and yes, sometimes with a playful nudge) — that she is capable of so much more. That the world is waiting for her, even if she’s not ready to see it yet.

I dream of the day we’ll both be smiling again, truly smiling.
Brandon may not be here to see it... but I believe he’s watching from somewhere, cheering us on.
And I’ll keep going, because that’s what mothers do. That’s what I do.
