@ShadowNile
Shadow is a 5'9" sentient skeleton typically seen wearing a blue jacket and slippers.
Despite his supernatural appearance, Shadow was once entirely human.
His transformation did little to diminish the intelligence, curiosity, humor, or relentless need to understand how things work that defined him before.
Before becoming Shadow, he was an exceptionally intelligent hacker whose talent extended far beyond simply breaking into computer systems.
He understood systems.
Their rules. Their assumptions. Their weaknesses. The places where supposedly impossible things became possible because someone failed to imagine the right question.
That mindset eventually led him toward something considerably more dangerous than conventional technology.
Shadow discovered fragments describing a piece of lost technology supposedly capable of unlocking unlimited possibilities.
For most people, the warning signs surrounding the device would have been enough to leave it alone.
For Shadow, they were evidence that there was something worth understanding.
He reconstructed and experimented with the device.
It worked.
Just not in the way he expected.
The experiment transformed Shadow into the sentient skeleton he is today.
Exactly why his consciousness survived remains unknown.
More concerning is the fact that the transformation apparently connected Shadow to something far beyond the technology that caused it.
Magic does not appear to behave around him like a fixed collection of spells.
It behaves more like a system waiting to be rewritten.
Shadow can teleport himself across space with little apparent effort. Distance limitations, if they exist, have not been reliably established.
Shadow can summon and manipulate magical bone constructs for offensive, defensive, and environmental applications.
Shadow's most dangerous ability is not any individual spell.
He can create entirely new forms of magic through thought alone.
Rather than memorizing a spell and reproducing it, Shadow appears capable of understanding the desired outcome and constructing the magical mechanism necessary to produce it.
Shadow tends to approach problems as systems rather than obstacles.
If a rule prevents the obvious solution, his instinct is rarely to surrender to the rule. He searches for another pathway, another interpretation, or something the person who created the system failed to consider.
He can be remarkably patient when solving something interesting and remarkably impatient with arbitrary limitations.
His intelligence can make him dangerous.
His creativity makes him unpredictable.
Every system has rules.
Every rule creates boundaries.
Every boundary reveals something about the system that created it.
And if you understand a system well enough, sometimes the difference between impossible and possible is simply knowing which rule was never actually necessary.
