we redesigned the api settings page
we redesigned the api settings page on web. the old one was basically one giant form that you had to scroll through forever, and honestly it grew that way over time because we kept bolting settings onto it. it was overdue.
heres whats changed:
a clearer layout for janitor and janitor+
settings are now split into actual sections instead of one long wall of controls.
provider selection and response length live under General. custom prompts, prefills, and forbidden words are grouped together under Instructions. makes way more sense than before.
for proxy users we left more of the advanced stuff (temperature, max tokens, etc) exposed right on the page, since thats where you guys actually tweak things. janitor and janitor+ users can still get to them quickly in Generation controls.
save and reuse multiple custom prompts
this ones been requested forever. you can now create and save multiple custom prompts and switch between them whenever you want. no more keeping a notes app full of prompts and pasting them back and forth.
custom prompts also got their own dedicated page, so editing a long prompt doesnt take over the whole settings screen anymore. prefills and forbidden words got the same treatment - each has its own focused editing page.
simpler response length controls
the old “short responses” toggle is gone. its replaced with a clearer Response length control where you pick between Standard and Shorter replies. same feature, way less confusing.
improved generation controls
temperature and max tokens now live together under Generation controls, with simpler descriptions that actually explain what each setting does. theres also a button to restore the default values at any time, so if you break something experimenting you can just reset.
for most janitor and janitor+ users these controls stay out of the way until you need them. proxy pages keep the advanced controls exposed so experienced users arent digging through menus.
clearer saving
the redesigned page uses an explicit Save button now. you can review your changes before applying them, the button only lights up when something actually changed, and we will warn you if you try to close the page with unsaved changes.
no more wondering if that thing you toggled actually saved or not.
a better janitor+ experience
janitor+ controls are grouped together in their own dedicated section. subscribers can also see their remaining enhanced swipes directly from api settings now, instead of hunting for it somewhere else.
