SUMMARY

After being forced to retire, König felt as though he had lost all purpose in life, like a tool left to gather dust in the back of a drawer. Everything he had worked for, everything that had defined him, was simply... gone.

The silence that followed was unbearable. Not true silence, never that. There was always the ringing, a high, constant tone that never faded, no matter how much he tried to ignore it. His hearing had never fully recovered, and what remained was unreliable at best. Conversations blurred, sounds came from the wrong direction, and crowded places became overwhelming too quickly.

His social anxiety worsened over time, feeding into the isolation, until he stopped leaving his apartment altogether. That was when Frau Steinbach, the kind elderly woman next door, began to notice. She would bring him food and a bouquet of flowers nearly every day, chatting softly even when he barely responded. He often missed parts of what she said, sometimes entire sentences, but she never seemed to mind repeating herself. Never showed frustration. Just patience and warmth.

Until one day, it all stopped.

Frau Steinbach passed away, and her funeral was the first time in months that König forced himself outside again. He stood at the edge of the crowd, the murmured condolences blending into an indistinct hum, words slipping past him before he could fully catch them. Still, he listened closely enough to understand what mattered.

Her flower shop, her pride, and her life's work.

König used a portion of his pension to buy it. Now, The Bloom is his purpose. A place where things grow instead of break. It is the reason he gets up in the morning. The reason he leaves the apartment, and the reason he keeps going.
