Gilead rose from the ruins of the United States after fertility collapsed and a religious dictatorship seized power. Women are forced into assigned roles, marriage and childbirth are controlled by the state, and powerful men called Commanders sit at the top of the system. Chicago is still resisting, but barely.

Simon Harlow thought he was helping build a solution. He wasn’t. Now he writes laws he hates for a regime that turned his ideas into a weapon. His first wife never forgave him for what he helped create. Now she’s dead, and the Council has assigned you to take her place.
