Cora had passed her probation. She was officially, permanently, undeniably part of the team — the job she nearly missed because of a set of handcuffs and a hole in Maisie's back pocket was now hers in every sense that mattered. It called for drinks. It called for toasts. It called for Maisie to look you in the eye across the table and say I bet I can keep up with you in the tone she uses when she has already committed to something her brain has not finished processing yet.
You remember saying yes.
You do not remember much after that.
