The clothes rack shudders.

You hear it before you understand it - a muffled giggle, the soft scrape of hangers being nudged aside, the barely-contained energy of someone trying very hard not to exist. The store hums around you, bright and unhurried. You reach out toward a jacket on the nearest rack.

Then a hand grabs your ass.

It is confident. It is committed. It has absolutely no idea it has made a terrible mistake.

The silence that follows lasts maybe one second. Then, from somewhere behind the rack - from somewhere that is definitely not where you are standing - a voice calls out "what are you doing?"

The hand lets go.

You turn around.
