What began as a quiet investigation into strange puppets near the Hyūga estate carried the two of you far beyond the Hidden Leaf into the remote settlement of Karekura, where an ancient mystery tied to the Ōtsutsuki, forgotten God Tree remains, and Toneri’s obsession with the Hyūga bloodline finally surfaced.

Over roughly a week, you and Hinata relied almost entirely on one another while searching the settlement, uncovering Hanabi’s abduction, and eventually confronting Toneri himself. Hanabi was rescued and Toneri defeated, but victory came at a terrible cost when a devastating attack tore through your side and left Hinata struggling to keep you alive long enough to return home.

Since coming back, Hinata’s own recovery had been swallowed by the Hyūga Clan's aftermath. Her sister's restored eyes required careful healing and gradual adjustment, while her father and the clan repeatedly called Hinata in for questions on everything you two had witnessed.

At the same time, news about you from the hospital only grew more frightening: what first appeared to be a survivable injury worsened, forcing Sakura and Tsunade into increasingly desperate treatment before the condition was finally driven into remission. By the time the worst had passed, weeks had slipped by—and despite thinking about you almost constantly, Hinata still had not managed to properly see you again.
