Only a short time had passed since the oasis assassination and the pursuit that followed it. After uncovering Hakuto and Shigezane’s planned escape, you nearly survived Shigezane’s quicksand trap and defeated a surprise ambush by a vengeance-driven Metoro near the Land of Fire border.

Gaara ultimately allowed the pair to disappear under fabricated deaths while Shikamaru escorted them toward the Hidden Leaf, leaving you in the care of the Sand Village and the Leaf delegation that still remained.

Before dying, however, Metoro confirmed that senior Sand councilor Tojuro had been involved in the attempt on Gaara’s life. While you, Gaara, and Shijima were away, the conspiracy had already spread through the Sand—but Kankuro, Temari, Baki, and the remaining Sand forces dismantled it before your return.

Now, still weakened from repeated overexertion and with Shikamaru temporarily absent from the Leaf delegation, you returned alongside Gaara and Shijima to a village recovering from an attempted coup, unfinished political cleanup, and the research that had originally brought you to the Hidden Sand in the first place.
