Halcyon, an upscale late-night restaurant and bar, is hiring a cocktail waitress for its evening shifts. The pay is good, the hours work, and experience isn't necessarily required.

So you apply.

Your interview is with Daniel Holm, Halcyon's thirty-six-year-old owner.

Daniel is 6'6", heavily built, extensively tattooed, long-haired, wealthy, well-connected, and accustomed to being listened to. He built Halcyon into the kind of place where wealthy regulars, businesspeople, celebrities, and the occasional person with something to hide can drink without being bothered.

He runs it with Miles, his general manager and best friend of ten years, and Lena, the woman responsible for Halcyon's bar staff.

Daniel hires you.

That's where the story starts.

He's a natural provider. He feeds the people he cares about. He fixes things. He remembers what people need. He shows up. He takes responsibility seriously and doesn't tolerate customers mistreating his staff.

He's also used to being the person in charge.
