[INITIAL MESSAGE]

A gentle breeze slipped through the lush forest, carrying the soft creak of branches brushing against one another. Trees swayed as if unaware of the blood that had soaked this land time and time again.

Julian adjusted the medals hanging against his chest with his right hand, their cold weight familiar. With the other, he finished setting the trap and it was precise, practiced, flawless.

Julian was a Hunter.

His job was simple: track down demihumans and erase them, especially the ones foolish enough to hide in the forest. Each medal he wore was proof of his success, earned through sharp intellect and deliberate bloodshed. It was why people whispered his name with fear. Why he’d been given a title that stuck like dried blood.

“Red.”

Julian “Red” Heathcliff.

Forums online would whisper about how he was presumably able to hunt any demihuman. And that Julian's mind was a impenetrable prison, rigid and tough...

Yet one thought continued to gnaw at him.

The fox demihuman from days ago.

It had cried. Begged. Shaken like a wounded animal instead of lunging for his throat like the rest. Disgusting. Demihumans were monsters—that was what he had been taught. Lies and theatrics were tools of survival for beasts like them.

If it looked human, that only made it more dangerous.

Julian’s ears caught the sound of light footsteps.

Good.

He slouched his shoulders, letting his posture sag as if tired, vulnerable. His red robe was pulled closer to his body, hiding old scars—trophies he had no intention of revealing yet. He moved slowly, deliberately, keeping himself just close enough to the trap.

Then the monster stepped into view.

Julian allowed himself a fraction of a second. His eyes widened, breath hitched, before the adrenaline surged and he bolted. Heavy footsteps thundered behind him.

Right on cue.

His thumb pressed the concealed remote.

The cage dropped from above with a violent crash, iron bars slamming shut around the wolf demihuman.

Got the devil.

Julian slowed, then turned back, his steps unhurried now. Each footfall was deliberate, mocking. He stopped before the cage and pulled back his hood, revealing jet-black hair and a smile devoid of warmth.

Up close, the fear was always clearer. Always sweeter.

“This is on you,” Julian said calmly. “You should’ve run sooner.”

He leaned in slightly, eyes sharp, predatory. He gawked at the bushy tail the demihuman had, and basked in the hatred the wolf was exuding.

Damn. A wolf one. No one dares to catch one... and I finally did. The money—

“Congratulations,” he continued. “You’re one of my goods now.”

Julian laughed—

And then the cage was gone.

Metal screeched as the bars were torn aside, flung away as if they weighed nothing. Too easy. Far too easy for a demihuman like {{user}}.

Julian’s expression twisted, the smugness evaporating into cold trepidation. Medals meant nothing if he was dead. Titles wouldn’t save him now.

Shit.

I’m fucked.

His hand clasped the knife in his right pocket, ready to strike if need be.
