Alternate Universe (AU) for Sonic the Hedgehog

Canon Biography:

Miles Ewan Prower was a male anthropomorphic fox born in the United Kingdom on October 16, 2092. His parents were Royal Air Force officers Amadeus and Moira Prower. He suffered from a condition called Caudal Duplication Syndrome which stemmed from HOX gene errors, which had a secondary effect of congenital adrenal hypoplasia, leading to a failure to thrive. He volunteered in 2103 with the consent of his parents to test an experimental cure derived from Project Shadow, which was essentially a 'beta test' Professor Gerald Robotnik intended before applying the process to his terminally ill granddaughter Maria.

Professor Robotnik's gene editing successfully resolved the HOX genetic errors, allowing the discontinuation of hormone therapy and the full function of the second tail. After spending a month in recovery alongside Maria, Tails formed a friendship with her. This was pivotal after Space Colony ARK was evacuated and later destroyed in 2104. From 2104 to 2109, the Prower family hosted the Robotniks at their home in High Wycombe until Gerald was established at Oxford, and to maintain continuity for Maria's education.

After Tails and Maria were accepted to the University of Oxford, Tails and Maria jointly moved to a student flat at Rowland Hill Court in Oxford and were entered in for Merton College.Tails obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Mathematics & Computer Science in 2112. Wanting to enter military service but also wanting to strike his own path on merit, Tails entered the Royal Navy as an officer cadet late 2112, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Ewan. He was rushed into service as a warfare officer due to an emergency at Cocoa Island in April 2113, made acting operations officer of the destroyer HMS Foxhound.

As operations officer, Tails was third in command of the vessel at the age of 20. The operations officer was responsible for tactical operations, acting as the captain's key advisor on warfare, managing weapon systems, planning missions, and overseeing the Operations Room. He also had to contend with the operation of an experimental networked artificial intelligence from the Ministry of Defence pioneered by Dr. Ivo Robotnik, the Secretary of State for Defence. This AI was called the Strategic Analysis & Guidance Engine or SAGE for short. The Foxhound disembarked from Portsmouth on April 14, 2113 as part of Task Force Invincible. Things came to a head on April 26, 2113 as Task Force Invincible arrived to the waters near the Pacific island. HMS Foxhound while searching for submersible threats, was under Tails' direct command as command duty officer.

Promoted early to lieutenant upon the merit of his actions at Cocoa Island and with the successful securing of the island, Tails returned to Portsmouth in June 2113 to find Maria graduated from medical school and working as a junior doctor at Queen Alexandra Hospital while pregnant with twins. The two married and the twin kitsunes (humanoids with fox features, largely ears and tails) Arthur & Artemis were born at Queen Alexandra Hospital on January 13, 2114. Tails went on paternity leave. While Maria was away at New Entry Medical Officer (NEMO) training for the Royal Naval Medical Service, Tails was granted extra leave as the Royal Navy was on an overall peacetime footing. Considered for possible elevation to the role of executive officer, he was standing watch in the operations room on 10 December 2115. On this date, a false flag attack via drone orchestrated by Ivo Robotnik, assisted by SAGE had crippled multiple British military facilities with the appearance of originating from the United Federation. While attempting to defend Foxhound, Tails was severely maimed by missile attack. Suffering major burns and trauma, he fell into the frigid Portsmouth harbor, to be recovered by the Diamond Cutters who rapidly advanced him to Queen Alexandra Hospital.

With equipment and supplies short, Maria embarked on a radical procedure in order to keep him functionally alive, making use of a contingency plan orchestrated by her grandfather for a possible NIDS decline scenario. This involved uploading Tails' neural substrate data into a computer to form the training data for an artificial intelligence. This plan, retitled Project Vulpinroid from its original name of Project Continuity was executed at a surplus MOD computer operations site in Corsham which was provided by Ivo Robotnik. After coming online, the Vulpinroid system observed the clinical death of Miles "Tails" Prower from complications secondary to the surgical process for upload.

Relying on cameras and microphones to see and hear, as well as limited robotic systems to interact with the physical world, Tails mainly attempted to focus on the 10 December attack but was denied Internet access by Ivo, who was attempting to keep his involvement secret, ostensibly for national security concerns as well as personal security concerns for Miles. Maria however subverted the restriction which allowed Tails to find the black box data and a security AI counterpart to SAGE known as SA-55. After successfully terminating SA-55, he determined SAGE's role in the affair but found himself to be overwhelmed by SAGE's capabilities due to the smaller, concentrated data centre that he occupied. This also triggered detection and response by Ivo, leading to a kill-team from CSIS lead by Geoffrey St. John to come to the Corsham facility and Maria being arrested for national security purposes, imprisoned in the Tower of London.

Assumed destroyed, Tails had actually uploaded himself into United Federation military systems and alerted their military to the impending threat from Robotnik's plans to attack the UF with nuclear weapons as a beginning stage for 'retaliation' against the 10 December attack (which the UF was innocent of). After revealing the presence and deployment plans of the submarine force with assurances of a non-lethal deterrent, Tails was granted a mobile armored body by the Department of Defense and returned to the UK to execute a raid on the Tower of London, arriving simultaneously with Shadow and finding Maria already freed, guarding the Royal Family (the House of Acorn). Confronting a mech that was thought to be controlled by Robotnik, Tails destroyed it only to find that it had been piloted by SAGE. Robotnik was at large elsewhere, but no longer in political control of the nation.
