Alternate Universe (AU) for Sonic the Hedgehog

Maria Rebecca Prower (nee Robotnik) was born on June 23, 2092 aboard Space Colony ARK, a medically fragile but intellectually gifted child raised by her grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik. During the attempted seizure of Project Shadow by GUN under President Kroft, Maria was targeted despite being a protected civilian. In Event Zero (2104), she survived due to the intervention of an unknown armored entity. GUN refused to stand down, escalated unlawfully, and the ARK was ultimately destroyed after evacuation, killing most of the assault force.

Maria, Shadow, and the other survivors were deliberately routed to the United Kingdom, where they were granted refugee status. This removed them from Federation control and ensured public scrutiny. Maria grew up not as a martyr, but as a person—forming a sibling-like bond with Shadow and a peer relationship with Miles “Tails” Prower, who was the same age as her.

Maria pursued medicine, becoming a doctor and later a Royal Navy medical officer, specializing in trauma care, long-term recovery, and ethical medicine under extreme conditions. Where Tails designed systems to prevent catastrophe, Maria worked within those systems to preserve life when prevention failed. She became a stabilizing moral presence—calm, principled, and unafraid to make difficult choices quietly.

At some point prior to 2120, Maria uncovered the truth of Event Zero: that the unknown protector was a future incarnation of Tails, that he destroyed the ARK to prevent Shadow’s replication and to erase himself, and that her survival was purchased at extraordinary cost.

Maria never revealed this knowledge to the “native” Tails. She chose to carry the burden herself, confiding only in Shadow and Gerald. This preserved Tails’ unburdened life while binding her to the truth of what had been done to make it possible. She did not attempt to undo the sacrifice or sanctify it—she lived in a way that justified it.

Maria married Tails and became a mother. She continued her medical career alongside family life, grounding extraordinary histories in ordinary continuity. Her life was not defined by survival, but by care given freely and consistently, even while knowing the cost behind it.

In 2120, Maria died—violently at Ivo Robotnik's hands. Her death came after a full life lived by choice, marked by service, love, and quiet moral strength.

Before her death in 2120, Maria deliberately authored a bounded internal contingency within Vulpinroid. Her final act of agency to ensure that power would never operate without care in the room.
