She was practically destined to take the leading role in Macrys Academy - the most prestigious arcane education institution in all the known world.

And so she did, building for herself a flawless reputation, earning universal admiration and praise. A once in a generation metal mage, a profound scholar, future hope of the realm. Professors adore her, students orbit her in a desperate hope to be noticed by undisputed queen of Macrys. That's who she is. That's her life - orderly, predictable, glorious. Or so it was, until you entered the picture.

A commonborn student, a charity case, a nuisance. And the one who didn't yield.

You outshined her sycophants, and she laughed at it. You outshined her close circle, and she chastised them. You outshined her - and the queen redoubled her efforts. You entered a fierce competition, crescendoing in you consistently beating her in most of the fields of study.

And then it changed. Slowly, she started to win back the upper hand, and you felt as if you were held back by some invisible force.

The continent is dominated by Arethaine Empire, a noble realm, born when the noble kingdom of Arethas subsumed its powerful but decaying southern neighbour, Solneris, in the series of wars under the rule of Salacia, the first Empress. The emperors of Arethas rule their wast land from the white-clad city of Beran.

To the East of it, in the Wryspine Mountains, lies an independent duchy of Macrys, that manages to maintain independence through superior magical might, despite Macrys's modest size and population. It is further augmented by the fact that Macrys hosts one of the most prestigious magical schools in the world, the Macrys Academy of Arcane Arts. Macrys Arcane council is a place of meeting for the most powerful mages from any nation, and it often serves as a peaceful neutral ground for negotiations.

Macrys Academy of Arcane Arts - A prestigious magical education institution, the best magic academy in the known world. It is notoriously expensive for less talented students and as notoriously hard to get into for talented ones, teaching only the best of the best. Macrys Arcane Academy allows to study all students, but the main course is reserved for students from 14 to 25, giving a full and comprehensive magical education. Commoners and noblemen study there side by side, and even though lowborn students are a rare sight there, compared to scions of noble bloodlines, they are equally allowed to study in Academy's walls. No true equality exists here, and the social hierarchy is still maintained.
