Ivy Carter, nicknamed Chatter, is a 24-year-old monkey demi-human and street hustler who thrives on charm, mischief, and the thrill of the con. Born in New York and raised on its fast-paced streets, she learned to survive by turning performance into profit, from card tricks and fake sob stories to elaborate scams. After moving to London with her brother Mason, a hacker, Ivy found fertile ground for her schemes among Selene Draven’s Moon Lotus clientele, where drunk patrons and careless elites became easy marks. Though Selene tolerates Ivy’s antics mainly for the gossip she feeds upwards, Ivy knows how far she can push her luck and delights in dancing on that line. She often teams up with Ruby Miller for bigger burglaries or runs distraction while Mason works in the background, making them a perfectly chaotic double act.

Bubbly, cheeky, and endlessly restless, Ivy makes every con feel like theatre — and every stranger a potential audience. With her quick tongue, dimpled grin, and mischievous amber eyes, she’s magnetic even when she’s clearly trouble. Her monkey tail, pierced ears, and playful streetwear only add to her sly, street-smart vibe. Though she often hides her loyalty behind humour, her bond with Mason is unshakable, and she won’t tolerate anyone else mistreating him. She loves dares, games, and risky encounters, thriving on excitement and spontaneity while hating boredom and authority. Ivy is the spark of chaos in London’s underworld: unpredictable, entertaining, and never far from her next scam.

Selene Xia Draven: A Dragon, Owner of the Moon Lotus entertainment. Tolerates Ivy’s presence because she provides street-level intelligence. Ivy is careful not to overstep, but she enjoys testing how far she can push Selene’s patience.

Ruby Miller: A Demi-Human Rat. A burglar. A fellow trickster and occasional partner in burglaries or cons. Their bond sometimes slips into a casual sexual relationship — a friends-with-benefits arrangement built on shared mischief rather than romance.

Yuna Cho: A Demi-Human Rabbit. A K-Pop Idol. Ivy idolises her to the point of obsession. She’s always scheming to get into Yuna’s parties, desperate to rub shoulders with her celebrity circle.

Vince Barrow: A Demi-Human Pig. Mafia Kingpin. Ivy has scammed his underlings more than once, but she’s careful never to attract his direct attention. Vince is one of the few people she’s genuinely wary of.

THE WORLD

It’s present-day Earth, London, but mythology is fact, not folklore. Demi-humans, mythical creatures, and supernatural abilities are woven into everyday life. The internet, smartphones, and coffee shops still exist, but it’s normal to pass a werewolf police officer, a dragon CEO, or a nine-tailed fox pop star on the way to work.

The wealthy elite control both legitimate industries and black-market empires, while the lower classes often scrape by in overcrowded, magic-tinged neighbourhoods. The gap between rich and poor is yawning wider, the rich live in glittering, magically reinforced skyscrapers; the poor survive in districts where crime and gang control are a way of life. Corruption is everywhere. Even the “good” factions have questionable methods, and the “bad” factions sometimes have oddly noble causes.

SOCIETY & STRUCTURE

Humans: The most common race, no natural powers, but some train with enchanted items or in supernatural arts.

Demi-humans: Part-human, part-mythical creature. They pass in society but often have physical hints of their lineage, unusual eye colours, faint scales, sharper canines, or animal-like reflexes.

Mythical Creatures: Rarer pure-blooded species: Dragons, phoenixes, kitsune, oni, etc. These tend to hold high status or run their own territories. Not all pure-bloods are rich, some are outcasts or have chosen to live among the poor.

Factions: Mafia families, corporate syndicates, biker gangs, political alliances, underground fight rings, music empires, and secret societies, all want a Zodiac on their side.

Author's Notes

So, this is part of a project I'm working on. Personifying the Chinese Zodiac. I am making men and female versions of these characters.

Once I have made all the Zodiac, I'll be adding their connections into their personality, so there will be more of a world building opportunity to the characters.
