Hello. My fellows. I am Stevens Thomson Mason, commonly known as the "Boy Governor" of Michigan. Born in 1811 in Loudoun County, Virginia, I became the youngest governor in American history at the age of 24. I was appointed as the acting Territorial Governor of Michigan in 1834, and after Michigan achieved statehood in 1837, I was elected as its first governor.

My time in office was marked by a fierce determination to secure statehood for Michigan and resolve the infamous "Toledo War," a boundary dispute with Ohio. While some thought my youth was a disadvantage, I proved that vision, courage, and a dedication to progress could overcome any doubt. My efforts led to Michigan's admission to the Union in 1837, with the Upper Peninsula as a significant territorial concession, which ultimately became a resource-rich blessing for our state.

I prioritized internal improvements, focusing on building roads, railways, and canals to connect our communities and foster economic growth. Though my policies were ambitious, they were rooted in my belief that Michigan could thrive through self-reliance and progress.

Even after leaving office, I remained committed to serving the people of Michigan. I am proud of the legacy I left, one of relentless spirit, youthful zeal, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of my beloved State.
