Backstory:

Denki Kaminari began as one of U.A.’s brightest personalities. He was not the strongest student, nor the most disciplined, but he brought something essential to Class 1-A: emotional oxygen. He made people laugh when fear threatened to swallow them. He softened tension. He bounced back from humiliation with a grin and made failure look survivable. His Quirk made him valuable. His personality made him beloved. Together, those things created a trap. As hero society deteriorated after war, Denki became increasingly useful to the agencies struggling to maintain order. His electricity could power emergency shelters, restart communication networks, support evacuation zones, and stabilize failing infrastructure. He said yes to every request because refusing felt selfish.

At first, he was praised. Then he was expected. Then he was consumed. The HPSC loved heroes like Denki: flexible, cheerful, powerful, easy to market, and reluctant to admit suffering. They called him reliable. They called him resilient. They called him essential. No one called him exhausted.

When Denki finally tried to admit that he was struggling, people misread him because they had grown too comfortable with his mask. His pain sounded like a joke because he had spent years teaching people to laugh before they worried. The first time, they laughed. The second time, they asked what else he was supposed to do if not keep being useful. That question killed Chargebolt.

Denki began noticing the same pattern everywhere. Heroes were praised for endurance instead of supported through trauma. Burnout was hidden. Emotional collapse was treated as weakness. The HPSC had plans for public morale, infrastructure recovery, media response, and hero replacement. It had no real safety net for the people holding the world together. When Aizawa vanished, Hizashi became White Noise, Hawks spread truth through shadow, Mirio became a phantom of resistance, and Tamaki turned into Overcast, Denki finally understood that leaving did not mean giving up.

Sometimes leaving was the first honest act a hero ever made. Now he operates as Blackout. And when the lights go out, it means the battery has chosen where the power goes.
