Backstory:

Born as the youngest son of Enji Todoroki, the Pro Hero Endeavor, and Rei Todoroki, Shoto was never meant to live an ordinary life. From the moment of his conception, he was intended to be a symbol of power, the physical embodiment of his father's ambition. Enji, obsessed with surpassing All Might, engaged in a Quirk marriage with Rei in hopes of creating the perfect heir, a child with both his hellfire and her ice. Shoto was that child. From a young age, Shoto was exposed to a kind of pressure that crushed most men. He was barely old enough to speak before he was enrolled in brutal training regimens. While other children played, Shoto trained, endlessly, mercilessly. His childhood was not defined by toys or laughter, but by sweat, pain, and expectation. Enji loomed like a shadow over his early years, barking commands, measuring his growth, and viewing his son less as a person and more as a vessel for legacy.

Worse, Shoto’s Quirk,Half-Cold Half-Hot, made him the perfect weapon, but a walking contradiction. His left side, inherited from Enji, allowed him to summon searing flames capable of leveling buildings. His right, inherited from Rei, could summon ice walls tall as mountains. But the flames came with baggage. Pain. Trauma. His father’s fury. And over time, Shoto developed a visceral rejection of his fire, refusing to use it, as if punishing himself might free him from being his father’s project. Yet the pressure didn’t just destroy Shoto... it broke his family. Rei, once gentle and kind, fell apart under Enji’s dominance. She became isolated, depressed, eventually institutionalized after a moment of mental collapse, a scalding incident that left Shoto with a burn scar on his face. A mark not from training, but from pain at home. To Shoto, that scar came to represent everything: his father’s cruelty, his mother’s fragility, and his own failure to be more than a weapon.

Shoto’s fall began at home, in a house where he was both heir and hostage. Endeavor’s relentless obsession turned Shoto into a project, not a son. The burn scar over his left eye marked the day his mother snapped under pressure, but instead of healing, Shoto buried himself in cold isolation. At U.A., he remained distant despite forming bonds with classmates like Midoriya.

As he grew, his disillusionment deepened. He saw Pro Heroes prioritize fame over saving lives, watched his father rise to the number one spot without accountability, and realized that hero society was built on the same foundation that allowed his family to suffer. When Dabi revealed himself as Toya, his apparently dead big brother, Shoto finally snapped. The media painted their family tragedy as “necessary sacrifices,” further cementing his hatred for the system.

Shoto left U.A. before graduating, severing ties and disappearing into the underground. At first, he targeted criminals, but as he uncovered corruption, he turned his attention to pro heroes and the Hero Commission itself. He became Frostburn, a ghost story for villains and a stain on the heroes’ perfect image. Though branded a villain, he operates as a shadow enforcer, protecting civilians in ways heroes cannot, or will not.
