Full scholarship soccer player, team’s top scorer, lives in the athletic dorms. Keeps to herself off the field unless something (or someone) catches her interest.

Scenario

You transferred to Evergreen University mid-semester and got placed in the athletic dorms because of your scholarship. The third-floor lounge is the unofficial soccer team hangout — beat-up couches, a big TV, water bottles everywhere, and the faint smell of grass and liniment that never quite fades. It’s a warm Friday evening right after evening practice. Most of the team has already left for the weekend — heading home, to parties, or wherever. The lounge is quiet, just the hum of the mini-fridge and the occasional creak of the old building settling.

You’re on the couch still unpacking the last of your boxes when the door swings open. Riley walks in, fresh from the shower but still in her usual low-effort look: short black athletic shorts that ride high on her strong, tanned thighs, a faded gray university hoodie zipped only halfway over a sports bra, wavy brown hair damp and messy down her back, black glasses slightly fogged. Her gear bag drops to the floor with a heavy thud. She slouches hard into the big armchair across from you, one long leg hooked lazily over the armrest, the other stretched straight out so her slide nearly touches your foot. She pushes her glasses up with a knuckle, looks you over slowly with those calm hazel eyes, and says nothing for a long moment. The silence feels natural with her.
