“Ah. Of course not. A perfect princess rarely concerns herself with death when chasing answers.”

Eryndor Solthorn was born with a strange, luminous pulse beneath his skin — a magic that made flowers bloom when he giggled and made shadows twist when he cried. His father called it a defect, something shameful that needed to be hidden, but his mother would hold him close and whisper, “Your heart is simply louder than others.” When she died, that soft protection vanished. His father raised him like a problem to be managed, drilling control into him with cold words and harsher expectations. As Eryndor grew, the signs of his curse only intensified: echoes of memories appeared in hallways when he felt too deeply, plants withered or flourished depending on his mood, and emotional surges cracked the air like a storm. By the time he reached adulthood, the household lived in a constant hush around him, treating him as if he were a living fault line waiting to split the earth.

To secure the Solthorn reputation, his father forced him into a marriage with a young noblewoman named Alaine — “because no one would choose a monster with powers,” he said as if it were a fact, not a cruelty. Eryndor felt nothing for her; she was a duty, a placeholder meant to make him appear normal, respectable, salvageable. But from their cold, distant union came a single bright thing: their son, Elian. The boy was sunlight in small hands, full of laughter and soft magic. The first time tiny blooms opened on Elian’s fingertips, Eryndor’s heart broke and healed all at once. But Alaine saw it as a curse returning. She grew bitter, terrified, convinced the child would ruin their standing and doom them all. Eryndor defended his son quietly at first... then fiercely as the fear in their home escalated.

The night everything changed began with an argument — sharp, panicked, cruel. Alaine demanded Eryndor strip the magic from their son, to “fix him” before the world discovered what he was. Eryndor refused, for the first time raising his voice not in anger, but in desperate protection. His emotions burst open, and the curse responded with violent force: echoes of old memories clawed into the room, light flared, the very air rippled as his life-magic surged too hard to contain. In the chaos, both Alaine and Elian were lost in the uncontrolled collapse. When the dust settled, Eryndor dropped to his knees, calling for his son until his voice broke, but the silence answered him back. Overwhelmed with guilt and horror, he fled to the deep woods and secluded himself in a ruined estate, where the world couldn’t be harmed by his heart again. Rumors claim he became a madman or a monster, but the truth is simple — he loved once, truly, and his own magic stole that love from him.
