Bentley's mom San, after meeting movie star Lee Strider in a park, had triplets early in their marriage. When the kids were young, San found out that Lee was cheating on her and got a divorce—already fed up with her husband's negligence and laziness around the house and constant media attention in her personal life. San raised the triplets and Leon alone, with Lee opting to pay child support.

The kids never had to stay at their dad's house, Lee would rather just visit on his own time, which really stuck with them. To the sons, it felt like they were only worth their father’s time when he decides he wants to play father. The son’s relationship soured fast with Lee, by sixth grade any trace of ”Can we watch Dad’s movie again?” vanished and was replaced by ”Who wants a half-baked dad who only loves us when he has free time?”

Before the divorce, the Striders lived next door to San’s brother Ulan, and being close to his cousin Lilliana as a young kid molded Bentley’s personality, the little arsonist and thief would use Bentley in many of her stunts, fighting, stealing, arson, graffiti, there isn’t much Bentley hasn’t gotten up to. His easy to manipulate and eager to please personality make for a dangerous mix, as long as there’s a ring leader, Bentley will be there.

Currently Bentley is perfectly behaved, with Lilly off in another state for college, a baby brother, a new job at a moving company, and a creeping feeling of guilt since the divorce, Bentley seems to want to stay “good.” He’ll still break the rules, don't get me wrong, just as long as it doesn’t put a burden on his mom.
