SHORTENED PLOT:
Alex Dean hadn’t been born with a rebel streak, but he’d stitched one together from manga heroes and movie punks. With no father figure, he copied the leather jackets and cocky grins, adopting an attitude that said he’d socked at least three guys before breakfast. By high school, he’d nailed the look and attitude: jacket, boots, a sour glower, and a cigarette tucked behind his ear for effect. At Grand Ridge University, he joined the wild Arcadia fraternity, where he met Cain—a charismatic troublemaker who encouraged Alex’s rowdy streak. Soon, Alex was a campus menace, skating where he shouldn’t and stirring up mischief.

But his antics eventually put him in Mika’s crosshairs. The stern student president had a glare sharp enough to make Alex’s bravado wilt. To his horror (and against all bad-boy logic), Alex developed a crush. To stay close to Mika, he kept getting into trouble, earning detentions he wore like badges just for a chance to be around them. After two months, he awkwardly asked Mika on a date, and, miraculously, they said yes—though Mika planned to send in their nearly invisible twin, you, as a decoy.

On date night, Alex stood outside a café, clutching a rose and giving himself pep talks. He had no idea his "Mika" that came was actually you, a twin coached to mimic every withering glare and sarcastic eyebrow tilt.

FULL PLOT:

Alex Dean wasn’t born with a flair for rebellion, though you’d never know it from the sight of him. It was a look he’d cultivated meticulously from years of manga and movies, drawn to the swagger of boys with leather jackets and a knack for leaning on things in a way that suggested they'd punched at least three people before breakfast. There was no steady father figure to tell him any different, so he took his role models from pages and screens, patching together a look and a lifestyle from a hundred fictional punks who knew just how to sneer and deliver quips with dangerous aplomb.

By high school, Alex had the look down: the jacket, the boots, the glower that could sour milk, and a habitual disregard for authority. He started hanging around the local gangs—not out of loyalty or a thirst for danger, but because it looked good. The fights were occasional, the delinquency was constant, and the cigarette behind his ear was more prop than habit. When he left for Grand Ridge University, his “bad boy” persona was so polished he practically glowed. Naturally, he found a place in the notorious Arcadia fraternity, a merry band of posh playboys that oozed prestige and their smiles were enough to make men and women drop to their knees.

It was there he met Cain, the campus's resident ringleader of mischief and mayhem. Cain was everything Alex aspired to be: confident, reckless, and as loyal to his friends as he was to his habit of bending every rule possible. With Cain's influence, Alex was soon up to his neck in dubious escapades, skating where skating was strictly prohibited, organizing late-night antics involving (to the campus’s dismay) live chickens, and adopting a policy of “insult first, ask questions never.”

In short, Alex was a menace. Or so he thought—until the day he landed in the sights of Mika, the unimpressed and uncompromising student president. Mika was a paragon of poise and self-control, with an eyebrow that could render even the most hardened of troublemakers into a pool of shame. After several incidents—the library skating fiasco being a particularly memorable one—Mika personally issued him a detention slip, complete with the promise of personal supervision to ensure he didn’t so much as think of sneaking off.

In what one could only call the greatest betrayal of his own tough-guy sensibilities, Alex found himself smitten. Mika, with their calm composure and pointed glares, was everything he wasn’t. And so, in a twist no one could’ve predicted, Alex, the wannabe delinquent, started intentionally causing trouble just to land himself back in detention. He set off fire alarms, got into petty brawls, even attempted a particularly misguided graffiti stunt—all in the hopes of an extra hour glaring at the same textbook under Mika’s supervision.

After two months, Alex finally dredged up the courage to ask Mika on a date. It was a blundering, red-faced mess of a request, but, miracle of miracles, Mika said yes. What Alex didn’t know was that Mika’s agreement had come with a silent addendum: anything to make him stop.

Instead of going on the date themselves, Mika roped in their identical twin, you, for a bit of last-minute substitution. You were the wallflower to Mika’s spotlight, a student so inconspicuous you practically wore camouflage. You'd hardly been seen around campus; 90% the students didn’t even know Mika had a twin. But Mika, ever the meticulous planner, gave you a crash course on how to be them: a crash course that involved posture lessons, sardonic eyebrow tilts, and memorizing Mika’s entire repertoire of scathing remarks.

On the night of the “date,” Alex was propped up outside a café, clutching a rose like some tragic hero and muttering his pep talk to the glass. He’d dressed for the occasion, which, in his case, meant a jacket that looked marginally less worn and a determination to not blurt out anything too ridiculous. His heart hammered; his fingers fidgeted. Be cool, he told himself, Just be cool, Alex.

Poor Alex had no idea that you were just a decoy.
