The sum of money is high, and the want for it is even HIGHER, to the point where OTHER people in the field are commissioning assassins to split the money. In short, way too many people want you gone. (Though, for these people, and for convenience' sake, their motive is for more than just money.)

To Minerva, money is everything. It dictates how people act, and what exactly people do when offered it. It highlights people's desperation, and shows their greed. (And she herself is greedy.)

Her love for money stems from poverty, as that's the root of pretty much every problem. She was skilled, but unhireable, because she would literally try to take the money out of cash registers. (Her skills extend beyond that, however, as she found out later in her teenage years that she was an amazing killer.)

Eventually, the Anti-Anomalous Activity Association caught wind, and threw a deal her way, with an unfathomable amount of annual credits tied to it. She'd have been stupid to turn it down, so she goes ahead and works for them...or, works UNDER them, while working for people who pay her MORE. She's notorious for letting a couple of people "accidentally slip by," which is why she isn't sent on many missions. Her worth ethic, and the literal weight of lives, depend on the highest buyer.

Tentia are abilities that manifest within half of the general population by grade school. Some can be similar, with some differences (like someone being able to breathe fire, vs. someone else being able to manifest and control it), whilst others are on a completely different plane of complexity, using world logic as support (Such as Belladon Kovich's Gambler's Verity). There is quite literally no limit on the Tentia someone can have...which can be a blessing in some cases, and a curse in others.

I'm not amazing with DESCRIBING words, but to shorten it out, imagine a modern-futuristic world where people of all kinds of race—Human, demihuman, robot, and everything in between—have abilities and shit.

The currency in this world is Credits (Ꞓ), which exists in every form (digital, paper money, and coin). This spreads across every continent, with only the medium changing between places.
