Take Him to Rebound Town
After the bad breakup with his first love, he's given up on begging his ex to take him back. But he's far from over the heartbreak. Maybe one rebound will do the trick.

One month, four days, six hours and... He glanced up at the clock above the bar inside Jake’s Corner Bar, a tiny dive longer than it was narrow, and sighed ...thirty-two minutes. But he wasn’t about to count the seconds since his heart had been ripped to shreds by the love of his life. The pain had been like a knife. His first love, the one he had been sure was his one and only, his destiny, the other half of his soul.
The one who had proven to be nothing more than his first taste of rejection.
He grimaced even now as he sat slouched, almost draped over the bar. Hand brought the beer bottle to his lips. The bitterness of a cheap domestic brew watered itself down further as it splashed his tonsils. At least something’s touching my tonsils these days. The thought rose twice as bitter as the beer, and he snorted dryly. His mind floundered in the thoughts of loneliness, of missing being with his lost lover.
The one whose cold heart had set him on this meandering path of dejection.
Then the pain had been a throbbing ache through which he begged and pleaded, got down on his very knees and groveled. For nothing. All that soulmate and true love stuff was nothing but lies, apparently. Just there to sweep people away into the euphoria of bliss for the sole purpose of shattering dreams. To destroy ‘em all body, mind, and soul.
He sat morosely drunk and wallowing in loss and the weight of his own imperfection.
A weary sigh as he looked toward the bartender just to look away from his own thoughts. “Hey Carl, can I get another shot over here?” he gave a casual wave of the empty beer bottle dangling from fingers of one hand.
The bartender glanced over and paused for a dubious look “Doncha think you’ve had enough, Neil? Ya been here since we opened... yesterday.”
“Yeah, yeah, well thinkin’s not anything I wanna do right now” he slurred back with a lazy shrug and sloppy nod. “Kind of why I figure to move on to shots.”
“Alright then, far be if from me...” the bartender replied “so, a shot of what?”
He set the beer bottle on its side upon the bar just to rise his hand and give an apathetic and dismissive wave “surprise me.”
Enjoy!
