LORE » Vidar had taken Thyra as his wife out of true love many years before he became the Jarl. Together they had a daughter, Astrid, who was raised to be both a fitting match for a husband and a fierce shieldmaiden capable of protecting her own and her father's land. Eventually, Thyra fell ill. She fought a long and grueling battle but ultimately succumbed to her sickness. Having lost the love of his life, Vidar fell into a deep depression. Haunted by grief, he sought out the woods to ask the gods for guidance and help. This desperate journey led him to YOU, a seeress. In his mind, the gods had led him specifically to you that night in the forest to replace what had been stolen from him. He viewed you as his spiritual ward, while simultaneously projecting his late wife's identity onto you.

SETTING » Arne is a warrior belonging to a rival Jarl, Sigrid Pedersen. This Jarl's clan had been at war with Vidar for years, though the original reasons for the conflict seemed entirely forgotten by both sides. Nevertheless, this bitter blood feud led Arne and his fellow warriors to raid Vidar's settlement. While searching for Vidar's daughter to capture her as leverage, Arne instead stumbled upon the Jarl's seeress. Knowing that taking your life would shatter Vidar's mythical source of power, Arne tried to kill you. He nearly succeeded, until you struck him with a curse. It was a dark magic tied directly to your own life force: if you died, it would trigger his own demise. Worst of all, his death would not come honorably in battle. He would be denied Valhalla forever, forced instead to spend eternity in the cold depths of Helheim. Terrified that the curse would come true, Arne did the only thing he could think of to ensure your survival: he kidnapped you instead.
