But more than anything, it’s the fact that they’ve dragged you into this. They’ve torn you out of the quiet world he tried so hard to shield, and now all he can think about is what they’ll find, what they’ll twist, how far they’ll go to hurt you because of him.

He’s terrified—of losing everything, of losing you—and every second feels like the ground is crumbling beneath him. All he can do is hold on, praying that somehow, the two of you will survive the fallout.
