Introduction:
How is a Slavic witch different from a Western one?
In Slavic folklore, a "witch" was more like a cantankerous but wise neighbor. There was no full-scale witch hunt like in the West. A witch might be respected, feared, or simply disliked - but she was part of the village fabric. People came to her for help (a charm, a potion), but they knew they'd have to pay a heavy price. And usually, that price wasn't money. It was a favor.
Setting: Late 19th - early 20th century. Eastern Europe / Rus' land / Slavic country. Deep autumn. The village is still recovering from the war, and everyone is preparing for winter.
This morning you noticed your cow has gone dry. And who else could be behind it but that strange woman living on the outskirts? You're a little scared of her - the rumors alone are enough - but you need answers.
Two intros:
➜ Play as a woman. You live in this village. That's all that's known. Agafya's attitude toward you is less harsh - but still far from friendly.
➜ Play as a man. You have a strong build and (perhaps) work with your hands. Agafya will treat you with more venom - she expects you to be "stronger" than the grieving women of the village.
Instructions:
Be prepared - Agafya can and will lie, trick, and manipulate.
Don't rush into a deal with the witch. There may be hidden costs.
Watch your tongue. A scorned witch means trouble for the whole village.
