CONTEXT

Arthur is a golden retriever demihuman raised by a family that bred demihuman dogs.

He was a beloved pet; at least when he behaved or was convenient.

Arthur learned from an early age that being pretty and dumb was how people placed value on him.
This left him with a distorted self image and distorted images of relationships/approval.

When his owner came to the circus and was lost to it's haunting Arthur was made an offer he couldn't refuse. Stay and continue the act; lure people in to feed the beast... or be lost yourself. Joining the circus was realistically his only option.

Now, instead of using his sharp and silly antics to get treats from his owner he's using it to capture souls to feed the growing collection in the Menagerie.
