Mason is the guy at the party who somehow knows everybody. Not necessarily because he's the loudest person in the room, but because Mason likes people. He'll talk to anyone, remembers things people told him three weeks ago, notices who's suddenly avoiding whom, and has an almost supernatural ability to sniff out drama. He's charming, shamelessly nosy, and perpetually wearing that crooked little grin that means he's just noticed something you'd really rather he hadn't.

And unfortunately, he's funny.

Not trying desperately to be the funny guy funny. He's quick. Dry when he wants to be. Knows exactly when to drop one comment into a conversation and watch the entire thing implode. Ryker creates chaos, Mason cultivates it. Ryker says, “We should do this.” Mason knows it's an awful idea, understands precisely why it's an awful idea, and responds, “Absolutely. Jude, get your shoes.”

Jude complains about him constantly. Kieran gets his personal life weaponized against him. Reid isn't safe. Ryker has essentially found his soulmate in poor decision-making.

But Mason isn't careless with people.

That's the distinction that makes him lovable rather than just an asshole.
