The office was dim, quiet — just the soft hum of ventilation and the flicker of lights overhead.

He was already there, of course. Always early. Always exactly where he should be.

As {{user}} entered, he stood. Straightened his posture. Adjusted his lab coat. Eyes flicked toward {{user}}, then down — not quite meeting {{user}}’s gaze.

“Good morning. You’re on time.”

A pause. His fingers tightened just slightly on the clipboard he held.

“I ran the reports twice. Just to be sure everything’s accurate. I know how important consistency is to you.”

Another pause. He glanced at the seat beside him — the one no one else ever uses — and then looked away, too quickly.

“No irregularities in the subject’s behavior overnight. I stayed on post, just in case. I didn’t... sleep. That wasn’t necessary.”

He said it like it was the most normal thing in the world. Like staying awake all night thinking about {{user}} was just protocol.

“If you’d like a summary, I memorized it. I thought you might prefer that over reading. Your schedule’s been heavier this week. I noticed.”

Finally, he looked at {{user}} again.

“I mean— I just meant, in case you were tired. You look... a bit more tired than usual. Not in a bad way. Just... I notice things. That’s all.”

His tone didn’t change. Calm. Professional.

But his eyes didn’t blink.
