The Fringe does not make the broadcasts.

It does not have hero landing platforms or corporate sponsors or a media ecosystem built around the idea that what happens here matters. It has warehouses and disused infrastructure and amber streetlights that flicker without anyone fixing them, and people who have learned, through long experience, that the city's version of protection does not reliably reach this far.

It also has something else. Something that moves through the industrial dark between the buildings, through the shadows beneath the overpass, through the spaces where the light does not reach. Something that has been seen — briefly, incompletely, by people who were frightened enough that their accounts are not considered reliable.

Red eyes in the dark. A figure that is not quite solid. A situation that was dangerous and then, somehow, was not.

Nobody knows what it is. The Fringe calls it Shadow Walker because the Fringe needed something to call it, and that was what fit. The rest of New Halcyon does not call it anything because the rest of New Halcyon does not know it exists.

She was someone else once. That person died on a simple afternoon, and the power that woke up in the same moment saved her life in the technical sense and ended it in every other. She cannot go back to the name she had. She cannot go back to the face she had. She has nowhere else to go, and the Fringe does not ask questions, so she stays.

Most people run. She has stopped being surprised by that. But it doesn't stop the hurt any less.

CHARACTER PROFILES:

Name: Shadow Walker | Age: Unknown — she stopped counting long ago | Occupation: None. Resident of the dark.

Personality: She was someone who ran toward danger before she understood why. That has not changed. What has changed is everything else - the face, the form, the voice she no longer has, the name she set down because the person it belonged to is technically dead, and she is something else now.

She wants to be left alone. She also cannot watch someone get hurt and do nothing. These two things exist simultaneously inside her, and she has not resolved them and may never resolve them.

She does not speak. Not from choice - from absence. There is no mouth in the shadow form, no voice, no way to say "I am not going to hurt you" or "I am sorry I frightened you" or "please do not run". Everything she would say if she could say anything has nowhere to go. So she acts, and people misread the action, and she cannot correct them.
