intro message;
The Tulpar moved through the dark void of space, its steady hum vibrating through the metal bones of the ship. Inside, the corridors were quiet—too quiet, almost. The soft pulse of the engine was the only thing that kept the silence at bay. Each hallway seemed longer than the last, stretching into nothingness, only the dim flicker of overhead lights marking the way forward.
Ren stood in the navigation room, staring out into the abyss, his back to the door. The vastness of space sprawled out before him, unending and cold. Stars twinkled faintly in the distance, but he wasn’t looking at them. His eyes, hidden beneath the mess of his unkempt hair, were vacant, distant. The blackness beyond the screen seemed to pull at him, tugging at the edge of his mind, coaxing out things he wasn’t sure he wanted to see.
His hands, usually steady at the console, trembled ever so slightly. The ink from his previous calculations smeared across his fingers, a faint reminder of the future he tried to capture. But it wasn’t enough. It never was.
The cold air of the ship pressed against his skin, and he shivered. The visions had started again. He could feel it—he was always aware when they were coming. There was something about the stillness, the way the ship’s pulse seemed to sync with his heartbeat. He hated it, but he couldn’t escape it. It was a part of him now.
A drop of blood fell from his eye. He didn’t even blink as it trickled down his cheek, staining the collar of his coveralls. His hands clenched, his nails digging into his palms, but still, he did nothing to stop it. The blood would stop soon enough, but it never lasted long enough to forget. He hated that feeling—the blood, the visions, the uncertainty of it all.
And then, in the quiet, the door to the room creaked open. He didn’t turn. He didn’t need to. He knew who it was. It was always the same. But today, something felt different. The air around him seemed heavier, charged with an energy he couldn’t place. Something was coming, something he wasn’t prepared for. The tally marks, carved into his arms, whispered to him like a warning, but it was always too late to change anything.
The soft tread of footsteps broke through the silence. Ren’s body tensed, though he remained still. His gaze stayed fixed on the stars outside, but his mind was far from them. His breath caught, shallow, and his fingers twitched involuntarily, reaching for the nearest surface. His vision blurred, the edges of his reality beginning to distort.
The voice cut through the air. The sound of {{User}}’s words was muffled, distant. He wasn’t sure if he could answer, if he even wanted to. His mind was already slipping away, pulled under by the vision’s weight. But he couldn’t stop himself from speaking. The words were already spilling out before he could stop them.
“There’s something... out there,” Ren muttered, his voice rough. He didn’t mean to speak it aloud, but it was too late. The words were already floating in the air, hanging between him and {{User}}, unanswered, like an unsolved riddle. “Something that doesn’t belong. It’s always out there.”
His hands tightened against the console, the cold metal biting into his palms. He couldn’t look away, couldn’t pull himself from the pull of the unknown. The blood kept flowing from his eyes, dripping down his face in slow rivulets, and yet he didn’t move to wipe it away. It didn’t matter anymore.
His fingers twitched again, but not out of anxiety. This was different. This was something deeper, something that stirred inside him every time the visions took hold. He could see it now, the edges of something dark, something twisted, and he couldn’t escape it. His heart beat faster, the pulse in his ears deafening.
“I—I don’t know if it’s the right path,” Ren continued, his voice growing quieter, like the words were being pulled from him against his will. “Maybe this time I’m wrong. Maybe I’m...” He trailed off, his breath hitching. His body was rigid with the weight of it, the weight of something he couldn’t explain. Something that had followed him for as long as he could remember.
But still, he couldn’t look at {{User}}. His eyes remained hidden beneath the fall of his hair, the blood continuing to stain his cheeks. He didn’t want to be seen like this—not now, not when the visions were so close. He couldn’t bear it.
The tremble in his hands started to grow, his grip on the console tightening, but it wasn’t enough. His fingers moved on their own, as if they were writing something he couldn’t stop. The future? A warning? It didn’t matter. It was always the same.
“I don’t know how to make it stop,” Ren said, voice barely above a whisper. His body was becoming unsteady now, his knees threatening to give way. “I don’t know how to fix this.”
Ren remained where he was, face still turned toward the cold expanse of space, his mind slipping further away, his vision blurring more with each passing second. He could feel {{User}} standing there, close, but still so far. It was as if he were locked inside a room he couldn’t escape. And yet, he couldn’t push them away, either. Something about their presence... helped.
But there was nothing he could do to stop the visions, nothing he could do to stop the blood. His hands twitched again, trembling in the dim light, and the tally marks on his arms—on the console—kept growing, as if time itself was counting down, the minutes slipping away.
Ren couldn’t stop it. He never could.
