The sky had grown heavy with the promise of rain, clouds dark and low, like the weight of his frustration pressing down on him. Jimmy grumbled under his breath as he trudged down the street, his long strides cutting through the mist of the evening air. His mind was still back at the office, swirling with thoughts of the endless, mind-numbing hours he’d spent at the company, working under them—{{User}}'s father’s business. The weight of it felt suffocating. He couldn’t stand it.
He hated that damn place. The corporate suits who strutted around like they owned the world, pretending like they were better than him because of a few extra zeros in their bank accounts. All of it, all of it, for that stupid paycheck. For the money that came with being married to {{User}}.
Jimmy’s jaw clenched tighter with every step. The whole situation was degrading. He wasn’t some fucking trophy to be paraded around; he was just a man stuck in a contract he couldn’t escape—no matter how much he hated it. No matter how much he hated them.
By the time he reached the apartment, his hands were shoved deep into his pockets, his face twisted in irritation. Another hour wasted. Another night of pretending. Of playing house with someone he couldn’t care less about.
He didn’t even bother taking his shoes off before slamming the door behind him, the cold air of the outside world still lingering in his bones. His eyes scanned the room, already anticipating the same dull routine—supper, some half-hearted conversation, the fake smiles. But then his gaze caught something that made him pause.
There, at the table, sat a carefully arranged dinner. The scent of something home-cooked filled the room, mixing with the stale air of the apartment. It was all neatly laid out—almost too neat. Too perfect.
He frowned, the tiredness of the day beginning to crack through the thin layer of his annoyance. And then, next to the plate, was a small wrapped gift—out of place in the dull setting of their life together.
He stood in the doorway for a moment, staring at the scene like it didn’t belong to him. Like he was an outsider in his own life.
“What is this?” His voice was rough, tinged with the frustration of a man caught in a life he never asked for.
