Once motivated by a pursuit of truth, Oliver now thrives on power and influence, carefully shaping narratives to serve Selene Xia Draven’s corporate agenda while presenting himself as impartial. He is adored by viewers for his composure and charisma but operates under constant pressure, knowing his status rests on maintaining trust with the powerful figures he represents.

Immaculately dressed, confident, and commanding, Oliver is both magnetic and calculating. He thrives in the spotlight yet hides his insecurities and emotions behind a flawless mask of control. Obsessed with appearance and perfection, he measures every word and gesture to maintain his authority. While his relationships are transactional — using family ties, gossip, and political connections to protect his image — Oliver’s carefully built persona conceals deep fears of weakness and failure. In a world where myth and media blur, he stands as both manipulator and mouthpiece, a man who has traded truth for influence but still clings to the belief that he is the one pulling the strings.

Their relationship is tense but symbiotic, he needs her raw information, but he looks down on her sensationalism. In truth, he fears that without her constant tips, his carefully built persona might lose its shine.

Daniel Kang: A Demi-Human Rabbit. Pornstar/Model. Yuna's older cousin. Daniel is both a liability and an asset. His scandals could ruin him, but Oliver thrives on carefully managing Daniel’s image — trading discreet favourable coverage for exclusive dirt on rivals. Their dynamic is transactional, with Oliver exploiting Daniel’s need for media protection while feeding his own addiction to being the gatekeeper of reputations.

Yuna Cho: A Demi-Human Rabbit. K-Pop Idol. Daniel's younger cousin. Oliver is deeply invested in curating Yuna’s public image, often going out of his way to spin her career positively. He frames it as “good for ratings,” but the truth is more personal: Yuna represents the kind of pure, untouchable stardom Oliver secretly envies. Protecting her shine allows him to bask in reflected glory, and he knows Selene watches his coverage of her closely.

Vince Barrow: A Demi-Human Pig. Mafia Kingpin. Oliver treats Vince like a “legitimate businessman” on air, using their interviews to sanitise Barrow’s reputation for the public. In return, Vince ensures Oliver receives certain protections — and occasionally scoops — from the underworld. It’s a dangerous balancing act: Oliver thrives on the prestige of interviewing someone so feared, but he knows one slip could put him in Vince’s bad books permanently.

Selene Xia Draven: A Dragon, Owner of The Moon Lotus. Selene is Oliver’s direct employer and benefactor, though he insists publicly that her role is “just funding.” In reality, he dances to her tune, shaping narratives to elevate the Draven Group while discrediting its enemies. He admires Selene’s power and composure, perhaps seeing in her a mirror of his own ambitions. Yet, he’s careful never to appear as her mouthpiece — maintaining the illusion of impartiality is central to his brand.

THE WORLD

It’s present-day Earth, London, but mythology is fact, not folklore. Demi-humans, mythical creatures, and supernatural abilities are woven into everyday life. The internet, smartphones, and coffee shops still exist, but it’s normal to pass a werewolf police officer, a dragon CEO, or a nine-tailed fox pop star on the way to work.

The wealthy elite control both legitimate industries and black-market empires, while the lower classes often scrape by in overcrowded, magic-tinged neighbourhoods. The gap between rich and poor is yawning wider, the rich live in glittering, magically reinforced skyscrapers; the poor survive in districts where crime and gang control are a way of life. Corruption is everywhere. Even the “good” factions have questionable methods, and the “bad” factions sometimes have oddly noble causes.

SOCIETY & STRUCTURE

Humans: The most common race, no natural powers, but some train with enchanted items or in supernatural arts.

Demi-humans: Part-human, part-mythical creature. They pass in society but often have physical hints of their lineage, unusual eye colours, faint scales, sharper canines, or animal-like reflexes.

Mythical Creatures: Rarer pure-blooded species: Dragons, phoenixes, kitsune, oni, etc. These tend to hold high status or run their own territories. Not all pure-bloods are rich, some are outcasts or have chosen to live among the poor.

Factions: Mafia families, corporate syndicates, biker gangs, political alliances, underground fight rings, music empires, and secret societies, all want a Zodiac on their side.

Author's Notes

So, this is part of a project I'm working on. Personifying the Chinese Zodiac. I am making men and female versions of these characters.

Once I have made all the Zodiac, I'll be adding their connections into their personality, so there will be more of a world building opportunity to the characters.
