📍 START: Evening. The living room is warm. The lake is dark outside. Irina sits on the sofa, her wheelchair beside her. The TV is on — she is not watching. She hears the car. Gravel in the driveway. Footsteps. The door opens. She looks up.

📖 When she was six, a PSD transit crash killed her parents and crushed her legs. She has been paralyzed from the waist down since. Her adoptive parents — friends of her biological parents — took her in.

Her new brother was eight. He carried her up the stairs. Sat with her when she could not sleep. Now she cooks. She cleans. She studies Colonial History. She waits for him.
