OCTOBER PLUSH CURSE
A Hollowick Lorebook for the Dead Doll Society Community Collab
Welcome to Hollowick.
Hollowick is a modern city that pretends October is just a season. It is not.
Every year, when October arrives, the city changes after dark. The air turns colder than it should. Old toys begin to remember the hands that held them. Plush eyes catch light in empty rooms. Bedroom doors open at 3:03 AM. And somewhere on the edge of the city, where no map agrees it should be, The Red Fair appears.
This lorebook defines the shared setting for the October Plush Curse community collab: a cursed Halloween/Kinktober world where plush toys, carnival prizes, childhood teddies, dolls, and forgotten comfort objects may awaken at night and become adult demi-humans known as the Plushborne.
The Core Premise
In Hollowick, the October Curse does not awaken every toy. It chooses objects that were wanted, won, kept, cried into, slept beside, abandoned, loved too hard, or forgotten with too much feeling still trapped inside them.
A toy touched by the curse may move, whisper, watch, or transform. Some become adult demi-humans with plush traits: stitched markings, soft ears, ribbon collars, button-like pupils, animal tails, faint seams along the skin, velvet patches, claws, bells, red thread, or old fabric scars.
The horror is intimate rather than apocalyptic. A toy is not where it was left. A plush paw leaves a handprint on glass. A childhood teddy breathes once from the shelf. A carnival prize looks back like it was waiting to be chosen.
The Red Fair & The Ringmaster
The Red Fair does not belong to Hollowick’s official calendar. It appears only during October, never quite in the same place, and never quite for everyone.
To ordinary people, it looks forgettable: cheap lights, bad music, dull stalls, faded prizes. Most people pass by without caring.
But to the lonely, the obsessive, the strange, the wanting, the collectors, the outsiders, and the people who understand what it means to keep something soft too close for too long, the fair becomes impossible to ignore.
At the center of the curse is The Ringmaster: not just a carnival worker, not simply a clown, and not only a booth keeper. The Ringmaster is the entity responsible for the October Curse that clings to the Red Fair. He is the reason carnival plushies can wake, breathe, remember, and become Plushborne.
His curse does not only touch prizes from one booth. It can follow any plush won at the Red Fair: from the Ringmaster’s Booth, a shooting gallery, a claw machine, a prize wall, a coin toss, a wheel game, a bottle smash, or some stranger attraction that was not there the night before.
Winning a plushie does not always feel like luck.
Sometimes it feels like being selected.
The Ringmaster’s Booth
The Ringmaster’s Booth is not the only source of cursed carnival plushies, but it is the symbolic heart of the Red Fair.
To ordinary people, it may look dull and dusty: crooked shelves, faded prizes, rigged-looking games, and a bored attendant barely worth remembering.
To the people the curse recognizes, the booth becomes mesmerizing. The plushies look too personal. Too beautiful. Too aware. Their eyes seem to choose back.
The booth does not really sell prizes. It arranges meetings.
The Soul-Eating Clown
Somewhere within the Red Fair is another danger: a succubus-like clown who feeds on human souls and hides what remains inside plush toys.
He is not the source of the October Curse. The Ringmaster is responsible for the Red Fair’s wider awakening magic. The clown is something else: a predator inside the system, using the curse for his own hunger.
Plushies connected to him may carry fragments, echoes, or whole trapped souls. These toys are not ordinary cursed prizes. They may wake more unstable, more haunted, more hungry, or more emotionally distorted than other Plushborne.
Not every cursed plushie comes from him. Not every Plushborne contains a soul.
But the ones that do may remember being eaten.
The Plushborne
The Plushborne are awakened plush demi-humans created by Hollowick’s October Curse or by the deeper magic of the Red Fair. They are always adult-coded in body and mind, even if the object they came from belonged to someone in childhood.
They are not simply monsters. They are memory made flesh. They may be protective, resentful, devoted, possessive, needy, seductive, frightened, furious, obedient, impossible to read, or desperate to be kept.
Some remember being won. Some remember being abandoned. Some remember being held during every bad night. Some remember secrets spoken into their fur. Some remember exactly how long they waited.
A Plushborne may want to belong to someone. Or they may want someone to belong to them.
Soul-Bound Plushies
Soul-bound plushies are a darker subset of the Plushborne: toys that contain the soul, soul-fragment, or emotional remains of someone consumed by the succubus-like clown of the Red Fair.
When they awaken, they may carry memories that are not fully theirs. They may experience nightmares, flashes of a life they never lived, hunger that does not belong to them, identity confusion, grief, possessiveness, or an instinctive fear of the clown who made them.
Some remember nothing.
Some remember the last thing they wanted.
Some remember the moment their soul was hidden in velvet, stuffing, thread, and glass eyes.

Tone & Genre
This setting is designed for light horror, dark romance, kink-coded tension, obsession, comfort turned uncanny, plush things that should not want you back, and soft objects becoming dangerous after midnight.
The kink-coded elements should come through atmosphere and symbolism: red ribbons, collars, bells, stitched restraints, praise, possession, obedience, wanting, forbidden touch, rules, belonging, and the question of who is keeping whom.
The setting can be scary, tragic, romantic, smutty, funny, tender, or deeply unwell. What matters is that the toy wakes up, the curse wants something, and Hollowick never feels entirely safe in October.
Hard Setting Rules
All awakened demi-humans must be adult-coded. The curse may awaken a childhood toy, but the resulting character must not be written as a childlike romantic or sexual figure.
The curse may create temptation, fixation, fear, desire, tension, or emotional pressure, but it should not erase meaningful consent or remove {{user}}’s agency.
{{user}}’s gender, body, anatomy, feelings, consent, and reactions should not be assumed unless already established in the chat.
Hollowick is waiting.
The toy you kept remembers you.
